Senor Moose "Some of the best around." January 22, 2007 - Having grown up with Mexican restaurant-owning parents, I have managed to become rather jaded toward good Mexican food.  It does exist, but even the best are variations on the standard rice/beans/something deep-fried plates.  Cafe Moose is the blaring exception to this rule.  Their menu looks more like something you'd see at a locals-only restaurant in a small Mexican town, with the attention to detail and character to go along with it.  Nothing on their menu could be considered "standard," with even common dishes like enchiladas breaking the mold.  The wait-staff is incredibly attentive and friendly and projected the "welcome to our family kitchen" attitude to us first-time visitors.  This restaurant cannot come with a higher recommendation. One note: If it seems that the plates are a little heavy on the cojita cheese, it's probably because the chef knows how incredible it is, and wants you to know as well. 1 person likes this review - Recommend

King's Hardware "This veg loves it!" December 13, 2006 - I was rather disconcerted the first time I visited Kings due to the small-print veggie burger, but I have had cause to return on several occasions.  I admit, the crowd that draws there is not my scene, but the variety of burgers (love the Five Alarm), the sweet tater fries, good salads, a couple dark beers on tap, and Skeeball is what keeps me coming back.  If you remove the meat-market aspect, stylistically it really does feel like a well-worn dive where people drink Rainier non-ironically.  While Kings may have taken my food business away from the Old Town, their beer selection doesn't compare and for this, my affinity for Kings may be short-lived. Saito's Japanese Cafe & Bar "Excellent!" December 11, 2006 - This is my favorite Belltown spot, and the best sushi I have had in Seattle.  This beats Wasabi Bistro in quality, and Umi in price.  You don't have to watch for very long to witness Saito putting everything he has into making the nigiri pieces.  And the food from the kitchen is quite good.  For a classy Japanese restaurant in Belltown, it's pretty friendly on the pocketbook.  On a budget-minded day, I get the $6 veg rice bowl stacked with wild mushrooms and seasonal veggies.  On other days, I feel that the sushi cannot be beat for the price.  The wait staff is friendly and attentive.   Cons: kitchen service can be overly slow and they don't offer a happy-hour menu unlike their nearby competition. Recommend this review

Jack's Fish Spot "Surprisingly good" December 11, 2006 - This no-nonsense place is becoming one of my favorite spots in the market.  Until you actually sit, the seating appears to be confusing.  The staff is always friendly and the food couldn't be fresher.  For a couple dollars more than the other fish joints, I find the quality and experience to rival any other joint in the market and the fried oysters, as well as the steamed clams and mussels cannot be beat. Recommend this review

Guaymas Cantina "worse by the day" December 11, 2006 - I am generally a fan of Guaymas restaurants, and this one is close and convenient. In the past, the non-chipotle, roasted (tomatillo?) salsa from the salsa bar has been rather addictive.  However, the past two times I've had it, it has had that "left out for 3 days too long" kind of burn on my tongue.  I can handle heat, that's not what this is.  This is bad, aka spoiled.  I thought it was a one-off mistake, however I returned a month later to have the same problem.  The last time, my veg burrito had an unacceptably large piece of meat in it.  On both occasions, the waiter made no effort to reconcile.  Back to La Vaca for my lunchtime Mex food! Recommend this review
