Moxie "Disappointing" June 15, 2008 - So the SO and I went there last night after a SIFF film at the uptown. We were promptly seated and everyone was very friendly. The SO was very keen on this place, as was I as it has been gotten good reviews.Decor- Brown modern. Nothing to write home about. Dark and pretty loud. We both thought it was OK.Food and Wine- The server really did not know anything about the wine, so we just made educated guesses. They were out of a few things (trout and the steak special), but the menu was pretty good. The SO ordered the calves liver and the blackened halibut with southern fixings. I ordered the squid and the Lamb "porterhouse"with middle-eastern sides. Everything but the squid was disappointing. The liver was bitter with a super-sweet sauce- so much so that the sweet-loving SO called it dessert sweet. The squid was very nice, with a curry-mayonnaise which was great. The Hal abut was blackened (which the SO though was salty, but I liked), but then covered with a "carolina BBQ sauce" which was bad and hid the flavour of the fish. The SO scraped the coating off the fish and ate that, claiming that it was a nice piece of fish once you got the crap off. The cheese grits were OK, but the greens were flavourless. My lamb "porterhouse" was actually 2 chops-small chops at that. They were tasty once you scraped off the cucumber-drek that they seemed to be smothered in. My sides were quite nice- harissa carrots that were flavourful and well prepared. Cost- Expensive for what you get. over $100 for the meal and while the appetizers were generous, the mains were small, esp the lamb. Overall, I cannot recommend this place. Which is odd, based on the reviews here and from other places. The menu is completely different from the time of most of these reviews, so perhaps there had been a change in approach. 4 out of 10 |

611 Supreme "A little overated" April 27, 2008 - My SO and I have spent many a weekend looking for a crepe restaurant that we both like. People told us about 611 as being the place to go for the best crepes in the city. Perhaps they oversold it too much. The place was typical capitol hill hipster scene and was loud and had a fun vibe. It was not that busy for 11AM on a Sunday, which surprised us. The service could best be described as languid. The menu was short and had very little to offer besides crepes- which was fine since we were there fore the crepes. My SO got the salmon and cheese crepe, a Nutella-banana crepe, and a mocha. I got the ham and cheese crepe, a small French-press coffee, and a bloody Mary. The crepes were eggy and buttery-pretty nice. The fillings were OK- the ham in my crepe was very salty and I could not taste the cheese. The salmon crepe was supposed to have cheese in it, but the SO could not really find it. But all in all they were pretty good. The Nutella crepe, however, was served cold, with a unripe banana dropped on top like a big white turd. Very disappointing. My coffee was good, the bloody Mary was nice, but the SO's mocha tasted "woody", for lack of a better term. Overall, not the best experience we have ever had. The food was "meh"-to bad, the service was "meh", and the price was reasonable for Capitol Hill. I am inclined to think we caught them on a bad day. Can't see recommending them based on this trip. 4/10 |

Liberty "Good drinks, "meh" sushi," meh" service" April 20, 2008 - Went here for the first time. 4 of us. The drinks were strong and great, almost on par with Zig Zag (drinks were bigger too). The SO loved the lemon drop, and the Dragon Toe was tasty. Sushi- We ordered a bunch of rolls- some were good, and some were not so good. They were out of a few things, but no biggy. Al in all the food was OK- better sushi can be found. Decor and service. Seattle art bistro typical- with art for sale on the walls , some tables, some couches. The service was bad- slow and inattentive. The bartender was overworked, and had very little help. However, he catered to people he knew and not to us- again I can understand the need to please the regulars, but a little annoying nevertheless...All in all I liked the place for drinks, and would go back again. |

Manna Smoked Bar B Q "Better than some." April 14, 2008 - Pretty good brisket and smoked turkey. Slow service. Really slow. Texas style all the way, with good sides. The sauce, served on the side, is very sweet. Their hot sauce has no impact whatsoever. Still, I kinda like it. 6/10 |

Floyd's Place "Blah" April 14, 2008 - Been there twice. The ribs were tough, the hotlinks were good, and the chicken was pretty good. The sauce was too sweet and their hot sauce was laughable. My SO ordered something non-barbecue ( a French dip). It was really bad. 5/10 |
