Abhiruchi South North Indian (in Beaverton) "Indian Yum-Yum" July 03, 2008 - The food at Abhiruchi South North Indian was very good. In fact I ate too much and I still didn't want to stop. The Lamb Samosa was very tasty, the Nan was warm and fluffy with just the right amount of crispness on the outside, and my Chicken Tikka Masala was the best I've ever tasted. My wife's choice (I can't remember what it was called) was not really my cup of tea, but even at that wasn't bad. The chicken was good and the rice was very spicy, which I liked, but it had several hard spices in it, cardamom seeds being one that I could distinguish. The restaurant was nice and comfortable with its Indian motif and pleasant ambiance. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was wonderful, arrived quickly and was reasonable priced. And there is a large parking lot. This was a great experience all the way around. |

Delta Cafe (in Portland) "Ooh' Boy" June 19, 2008 - This place has the best Cajun food I've eaten in the Portland area and probable on the west side of the state. We had a large rather tasty appetizer of fried oysters. I had some great crawfish etoufee' with my chosen side of cauliflower casserole, while my wife dined on a succulent ribeye smothered in onions and mushrooms with her two chosen sides of greens and mac-n-cheese. The portions are large (not requiring any appetizer) and the food is spiced according to your choosing. The sides are scrumptious, but you may have to take them home. The prices seem high until you dig into the pallet-pleasing belly-filling portions. Parking is available in back, but the lot is small so you may end up parking on the street. If you like Cajun and Sothern Soul you'll be happy here. |

Halibut's (in Portland) "Bacon Chowder?" May 21, 2008 - Halibut's has great fish and chips, but the price is a bit high and the selection is limited and there is a full bar serving bear, wine and mixed drinks. We walked in and had no problem finding seating, but it was a Tuesday and I suspect that seating on the weekend would be somewhat more limited. We were told however, that it was busier than usual for a Tuesday. This is probably why there was a shortage of wait staff and service was a little slow. I had the clam chowder and crab cakes, the chowder was loaded with bacon, which would have been great if it were potato soup, but it was supposed to be clam chowder. The flavor of the clams was held overpowered by the bacon. I was expecting Clam chowder and though it was good I was disappointed. The crab cakes were good, but not great. They were tasty but missing something. Parking is on street and may be difficult to find in this busy area.Overall I like the food at Halibut's, but I would probably choose Hawthorne Fish House over Halibut's unless I did not want to make the extra drive. |

Rodney's Steak & Barbeque (in Portland) "Good Steak, But Great Bar-B-Q" May 15, 2008 - I have eaten at Rodney's Steak & Barbeque or taken home food form there several times and have never been disappointed. However, I have to say that the Bar-B-Q shines over the other selections on the menu. If you are looking for a decent steak for a reasonable price, in the Tigard area this is a good place to get it, but if you want Bar-B-Q on the west side of the Willamette for a fair price, this place is fabulous. My mouth is watering right now. There is a full bar with a knowledgeable bartender, and poker on select days of the week. Parking and seating is ample as well. |

El Gaucho (in Portland) "El Gaucho - Grande Experience / Grande Price" April 30, 2008 - El Gaucho has romantic atmosphere, a smart and friendly staff, valet parking, live music and a wonderful menu Spanish/Latin influenced, American, gourmet food. Definitely make reservations many days in advance just to insure that you get a seat. You will leave El Gaucho very satified, entertained and with taste buds singing, but if you decide to eat at El Gaucho make sure that your wallet is fat because the bill will most likely be in triple digits even for two people |
