Pizzeria Fondi
"Who doesn't like this place?"
August 12, 2008 - Seriously, this is great pizza.
A crunchy crust that isn't too thin, good chew on the crust.and a nice cheese that I heard they make themselves.
Waaaay better than the stuff at Tutta Bella.

By's Drive-in
"Panko Breaded F&C"
August 12, 2008 - To me a breaded fish and chips is an entirely different food item from a battered fish and chips.  I much prefer the battered variety (Spud's, NW F&C, etc) to breaded (By's, Pacific Inn, etc).  Even for a breaded F&C, By's was a little greasy, thus, I have to give By's the "I don't" rating.
They do have some things going for them though, the hand dipped milkshake were good as were the fresh cut fries (although I like mine on  the slightly, soggy, potato-y side, ala Dicks, and I know others prefer the super crisp McDonald's style).
My friend had the burger, which he liked, but overall, I have to say I was a little disappointed by the F&C, which made it tough to like By's.

Alcatraz
"HOMEMADE CORN TORTILLAS!!"
June 24, 2008 - One of the few places around that has fresh, handmade corn tortillas, that alone gives them a thumbs up from me.
It's run by these two really nice sisters, with their mom helping in the back. I just had something basic this first time (carne asada plate), but they have an interesting menu with many different options.
One interesting thing, they have no dishes on the menu with pork in them.  I wonder if they are kosher or halal or something?

Georgetown Truck Stop
"Sweet place, especially now that the sun's out"
May 21, 2008 - To be clear, this isn't a "truck stop" like you'd think of it, or even a restaurant.  It's more of a little shack where you get food.  No question they serve up some good stuff down there though.
Be sure to ask if they have any specials if you go, they've usually got something interesting cooking up, and it may not have made it to the chalkboard they have up there.
Space is tiny, so now that it's sunny, the wait for food and getting a place to sit (at the outdoor picnic tables) is alot more enjoyable.

Slim's Last Chance Chili Shack
"Nice burgers, solid chili"
May 19, 2008 - While I didn't think the burgers were as huge as the first commenter here (maybe he/she has a really small head...), it was definitely one of the better burgers I've had here in the city.  Never frozen, fresh ground angus is what they tell me.  It was juicy, substantial and well prepared.
I had chili the other time I came here. I went with the red brisket chili over cornbread.  It's wasn't earth moving, but it was hearty and good.  No complaints, just nothing particularly special.
The bartender recommends that I have the Turkey-Serrrano white chili over Mac & Cheese next time.   We'll see where that goes.
