"Pretentious, overpriced, and greasy"
March 16, 2008 - This restaurant has little to recommend it. Parking is difficult. The service is average, and not particularly attentive or pleasant. The room is noisy, even when not crowded, and the decor is reminiscent of a 1970's fern bar minus the ferns. The seats are from the same school--the perimeter tables face a bare plywood bench. . The food was very slow to emerge from the kitchen. You pay a lot for tiny samples sitting decoratively in the middle of a large bare expanse of china, and the samples weren't all that good. Most of the dishes were overly rich and greasy. Some of the unusual combinations really didn't work (especially the foie gras in some sort of sweet raspberry sauce). It's sad to say that the best part was the bread. We paid over $100 for two people, and emerged hungry. We would not come back. If you must spend lots of money for "small plates," go to Union. The chef there actually has good taste, and the ambience is much more enjoyable.
