"Fava fava HEY!"
by cometgirl
(9 reviews) May 03, 2008 - Fava beans were amazing - especially paired with the rabbit. Sadly by the time we arrived the pork belly was sold out for the night and we made do with the pork tongue unfortunately it was finished in a vinegar sauce which masked the flavor of the meat. The meyer lemon dessert was incredible and led to a short tussle over the last bite. Wine list was interesting but the glass list was sufficient to keep me happy. |

"Overpriced Underachiever"
by lnopen
(14 reviews) April 07, 2008 - Four of us decided to give Lark a try. Upon entering and a recent Sunday evening we were surprised to find most of the tables empty. By the end of our "meal" I think I understand why. Lark bills the food as "small plates". It is actually "large plates" with very little food! Each item is barely enough to be considered a portion. The food to price ratio is ridiculous. Our server was adequate but not very engaging. The atmosphere was like an army barracks with tables. Seating was uncomfortable and begs you to eat and get out. The food itself was uninspired. While the menu description made the items sound interesting, the execution was lacking. The gnuddi was just ok. The 3 cheese plate had such a small sliver of each cheese it was laughable (crackers extra$). The salmon had skin on which would be fine, but they left the scales on also. Veal sweetbreads were laying in a bland sauce and overcooked. Deserts were pretty good and they have a small but decent wine list. They are too many better choices for small plate dining in Seattle. The owner(s) should try being a customer in their own place and see if they would come back. |

"Pretentious, overpriced, and greasy"
by bigapple48
(1 review) March 16, 2008 - This restaurant has little to recommend it. Parking is difficult. The service is average, and not particularly attentive or pleasant. The room is noisy, even when not crowded, and the decor is reminiscent of a 1970's fern bar minus the ferns. The seats are from the same school--the perimeter tables face a bare plywood bench. . The food was very slow to emerge from the kitchen. You pay a lot for tiny samples sitting decoratively in the middle of a large bare expanse of china, and the samples weren't all that good. Most of the dishes were overly rich and greasy. Some of the unusual combinations really didn't work (especially the foie gras in some sort of sweet raspberry sauce). It's sad to say that the best part was the bread. We paid over $100 for two people, and emerged hungry. We would not come back. If you must spend lots of money for "small plates," go to Union. The chef there actually has good taste, and the ambience is much more enjoyable. |

"Leave! we need to turn the table!!"
by The Dezigner
(1 review) October 11, 2007 - After we had a good time at this cute busy restaurant, my girlfriends and I were getting ready to leave, when suddenly the unpleasant restaurant manager came marching towards us like a French gendarme ordering us to leave because there were people waiting for a table!! No mind you or excuse me!! She ordered us to leave for free drinks at the next door bar, which we were not interested in because we were to leave anyway! I guess if Mrs. Gendarme was a bit patient this restaurant would have been a total delightful experience. Just a note for Mrs.Gendarme : “people that dine at your restaurant and are willing to pay big money for little food are not going to get excited about free drink!! An excuse me or please would have meant a lot more.” Salut |

"Overrated, Underfooded"
by cameronf
(7 reviews) May 30, 2007 - Before I get a lot of haters for this comment, let me first say the food at Lark is actually quite good. My issue is with the quantity to price ratio. I expect a restaurant like this to be expensive. However, the portions are so small, it just doesn't work. They encourage you to order multiple items and share, but we've been there with 4 people, and you don't just have to order multiple items, you have to order multiple multiple items. The cheese plate for instance is barely enough for 1, we had to order 2. Similarlly with just about everything else. They don't give you a good sense for how much to order, so we'd order one round, realize it wasn't enough, and then order more, but by then people were kind of tired of eating, noone got enough of what they wanted etc.So while it is good food, there are lots of other choices in this class - Union, Lampreia, Campagne, Madison Park Cafe to name a few - that offer better value with as good, if not better food. |
