"Fair prices, food court style seating"
by notafoodie
(1 review) July 22, 2007 - Mezza is an open to the public food court style area in the mostly closed to the public Starbucks Center building, which is the old Sears building that is owned by Nitze-Stagen. (http://www.nitze-stagen.com/starbucks.html) Customized salads, some pasta dishes, a Taco Del Mar, and some other category I'm forgetting right now offer a bit of variety for the employees of Sears, Office Depot, Home Depot and Starbucks that want something close if not too spectacular. For history buffs, there are some great black and white photos showing the construction of the Sears building dating from 1912, through the 40's, 50's and 60's, including the replacement of the old Sears logo with a SODO logo, and finally the Starbucks siren after the coffee purveyor moved in, in the 1990's.http://www.nitze-stagen.com/images/pgstarbucks.jpgThe employees are pleasant enough and are mostly employed by Pioneer Human Services, which helps their people recovering from chemical dependencies or are homeless, and gives them "re-entry" skills, employment training, treatment, and counseling services, so if you want to feel good about where you are spending your lunch money, this place is one way to vote with your pocketbook.. |
