November 19, 2009 - Likes it - The Restaurant has changed hands, but the quality is still fantastic. The service has improved. There is also now a lunch special for $6.95 and $8.95. I had the Beef Tenderloin Combo special, well worth the $8.95. |

"Fabulous"

May 14, 2009 - This restaurant is incredible. The food is fabulous. The hospitality is genuine and warm. The décor is beautful and full of detail. Everything from the iced crystal glasses for the wonderful wine to the little thank you note that encloses your bill is beautiful, unique, and reflects attention to detail. We had the spinach nibbles, Rama tofu in peanut sauce, Thai basil beach ( I am getting the names slightly wrong) and mango ice cream. She uses organic vegetables, has a nice wine list. Wish we were getting back from Boston in time to go again on our return. And the good news is the Best Western shuttle will drive you there. Possibly the best evening we've had in a long time. 5 people like this review Recommend |

February 15, 2009 - Likes it - Deliciouse Thai cuisine in an elegant setting. My wife and I had our Valentine's day dinner here and were very pleasantly surprised with the entire experiance. The bistro is elegantly adorned a combination of Thai and Victorian decore. An electric grand piano in center of the restaurant helps set the mood with fine music. Service was a bit slow but expected on such on occasion. The staff was friendly and curtios throughout the night. The food was amazing to say the least! Very authentic flavors; not like something you'd find at a strip mall. I recommend the Chicken Pad Thai with it's tender chicken and notable spices. We are wimps and only asked for 3 stars of spice in our dishes. Lots of flavor not too much heat. Try the Cresent Moon Mussels as well for some of the local marine flare. Prices were very resonable for the quality cusine and portions were moderate. If you love authentic Thai food like my wife and I do, you will not want to go anywhere else. Best in the Puget Sound!!! 13 people like this review Recommend |

"Fancy Thai Food"
by Dione Dittmar

January 18, 2009 - Likes it - My husband and I ate here on Christmas when it was the only place open. The food was pretty good, and had some different twists on common dishes. I'd be more likely to order take out though, as the inside felt a little too formal for me. Although it isn't my style, it is obvious that the owner put a lot of care and personal touch into the décor. The service was very good. I think this is a good special occasion place that doesn't cost a fortune. 15 people like this review Recommend |

November 05, 2008 - Likes it - Reflecting Thailand's long history, her chef's vision for Thai cooking is dazzling complex and entirely unique. The owner always move her decor around and chang them all the time. I always see new items in her restaurant. She really take good care of the place. The special dishes always created on the weekend night. She always change her dishes over and over again when we finished the first couse, secound couse..till our meal was end. Her table top is classy that why it was called "Thai Renaissance Bistro" It is not only easy Bistro like another. Her crystal glass are on every table. Her bouquet for the decor on big table will be removed when her guest was seated. Her silverwere for her soup is only 5 or 6 inches long and it is real silver serving spoon.I feel like a princess when I have dinner at her place. The price for the food is really acceptable for the organic vegetable, hight qaulity food, service, live music on the piano and romatic decor.I eat Thai food almost every place that have high quality food. This is one of the best Thai food in the area and affotable luxury. I love your food. 23 people like this review Recommend |

"Good Food, Hate the Tablescape & Flatware"
by SLY

October 30, 2008 - Doesn't like it - Honestly, I love thai food. After Thai Nana closed I had to drive a bit farther. I was happy to see that Suthanya Thai was opening in Des Moines. My girlfriend and I went to the restaurant shortly after they opened and we've been back a few times since. While the food here is good, I do find it a bit over-priced.The tables are set too formally for a restaurant that calls itself a 'Bistro'. I do not like the big floral arrangements that are set in the middle of the table. It gets in the way of having food shared among all the table guests and stiffles conversation. I would be happier if it was a small bouquet in a tiny vase; easy to move and if you don't move it at least you can see your husband across the round table. On to the flatware and dinnerware. My husband enjoys eating Tom Yum Soup and Suthanya has a good Tom Yum, but having to eat it out of a small bowl with a HUGE spoon with just of long of a handle is ridiculous. The same goes for the rest of the flatware on the table, it makes it difficult to eat.My vote: I don't like it, but if push came to shove...I'd order it for take out. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"great spring rolls"
by hanneymary

October 29, 2008 - Likes it - This was my second time visiting STRB. The fresh spring rolls and sauce are great. I tried Holy Thai Basil on the Beach...a recommended dish. There was no skimping on the seafood; scallops and shrimp! Lots of oil in this dish, it seemed, and lacking a bit of flavor. Might be good with some tangy spice. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great; an old house with lots of healthy, live plants, light jazz playing, and so many Thai, tasteful pieces. Very cozy. 17 people like this review Recommend |

"A potential gem in the rough..."
by Vanessa

July 11, 2008 - Glad to see a Thai restaurant in downtown Des Moines!Based on my three times eating at Suthanya the quality of the food has varied. The "Pad Thai" has ranged from tasting too ketchupy to too fishy, while the "Swimmingly Rama Chicken" was way too sweet. What I like -- friendly service, they use organic veggies, have a choice of brown rice, and they don't package their takeout in styrofoam containers. What could improve -- refinement of the dishes -- take a stab at emulating the flavors of some of Seattle's great Thai restaurants such as Thaiku, Buddha Ruksa and Mae Phim.I want this restaurant to be successful! |

"Thai Cuisine will get you!"
by Cornelia

June 18, 2008 - Likes it - When I think Suthanya: Thai Renaissance Bistro I think elegantly Thai, dazzling, authentic, healthy, fresh ingredients and harmoney in the preparation in romantic setting. I has her special "grilled squid salad" to stated off. It is very refreshing, with lime juice, lemon grass, garlic, ginger, chilies, red onion and mint; served at room temperature. Her Oranges Beef is wroth the effort! This exquisite dish is prepared with orange peels with tenderloin beef. The meat is typically served bite-size, accompaied by white jasmine rice. This dish will have you feeling nicely full just exactly rightm and just satisfied enough so that you'll soon be ready to think about the next meal in here. And that's the way it should be. 35 people like this review Recommend |

May 30, 2008 - - Suthanya Thai Renaissance Bistro proves that the words healthy and delicious can be used in same full of fresh flavored sentence in her bistro. Her classical Pad Thai - tender rice noodles tossed with garlicky shimp, crisp bean sprouts, little touch of green onion and a slightly spicy, salty, tangy-sweet sauce served with a wedge of lime on the side and encourage squeezing; a little fresh juice brightens the whole dish and really makes her flvors sing "this is the best Pad Thai in Seattle. 35 people like this review Recommend |

"Suthanya: The elegant Thai food in Des Moines"
by Thai Food Lover

May 29, 2008 - - It's really hard to find, highly rated, elegant Thai food in town. Suthanya: Thai renaissance bistro offered a special lunch stated off with Zesty soup of the day - Dugeness Crab Lagoon - then Classical Pad Thai with Jasmine Rice or Oganic Brown Rice and your choice of the Entree I love is chicken in cashew nut garden. All of that only $10.For the dinner, the most brilliant dish is the bacardi rum on flaming duck curry. Tanya, the owner, know how to finding the right ingredient combination for every dish.I've tasted an unimaginable number of Thai dishes over the past 40 decades, so I am well qualified to pronounce the food at Suthanya: Thai Renaissnace Bistro in Des Moines, WA one of the best I've ever had and ont of the most elegant Thai Bistro. 36 people like this review Recommend |

"Best Food in the South End"
by HIGGINSKS

January 06, 2008 - Really likes it - A gem of a restaurant. Unique intense flavors and lots of texture, fresh ingredients combine to make this one memorable. Quiet setting and attractive interior decorated in Thai style along with peaceful piano (weekends only) create an unhurried feeling and a desire to linger. We especially enjoyed the Basket of the Sea and the spinach nibbles. The pumpkin custard dessert with rice pudding was also spectacular. 36 people like this review Recommend |
