"A splash of brilliant color"
by Benjamin Johnstone-Anderson
(86 reviews) November 18, 2007 - You'd be forgiven for being skeptical about a Mexican diner, in Ballard, named Cafe Moose. If I had found it in a phone book, I'd never have bothered. But that would be a major mistake.Cafe Moose is a wonderful addition to Ballard's booming restaurant scene. While breakfast is what made the place legendary, dinner is excellent too. Prices are reasonable, at par for a Mexican restaurant where thought has to go into every dish. And does it ever. The menu (which consists mostly of favorites you'd find at an actual Mexican restaurant - in Mexico) is unique. Dishes vary by region, and even the traditional (e.g., enchiladas) is twisted to make something new.Service was friendly, and although food took a long time to materialize, this was entirely forgivable. Plates here are beautiful, and the atmosphere is enjoyable too. The best Mexican diner in Seattle - and possibly best Mexican, period.Recommended. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

"As good as it gets!"
by Lily
(1 review) July 23, 2007 - I agree wholeheartedly agree with the rave reviews that preceeded this - although that wonderful breakfast dish is chilliquilles, not chilliquitos ;) . I grew up in southern California where there's lots of great Mexican food; have traveled a lot and had it in lots of places, including great places in Santa Fe; but this is the best. I even thought about it when I was down in Mexico awhile back - because the food I had there didn't even compare well to Cafe Moose. And the coffee! - ohmygosh, the coffee! As good as coffee gets. I've told friends that this place is one of the main things I'll miss about the Seattle area when I move. I guess I should add that it isn't the kind of commonly found Mexican/American food you mightt expect, though - it's simple and authentic, but it's not trying to be like something you'd find in a big chain. |

"Chips and Salsa for Breakfast!"
by johnnjill
(20 reviews) July 03, 2007 - Seems like word is already out about this gemfor casual dining in Ballard. Chilaquitos are a hit among my family and friends, basically, a large pile of softened tortilla chips smoothered in fresh green salsa and topped with eggs any style of your choosing. Put the pancakes and potatoes on hold and get out to Senor Moose this weekend to try the most delicious and interesting breakfast plates in town. Another favorite is tomato soup with egg in it. Sounds strange, tastes great! |

"a revelation"

(7 reviews) May 07, 2007 - Simply one of the best restaurant experiences in the city. Between the quirky ambiance and amazing menu & food, this place just stands out as a place you could go every day and not tire of it. Loved everything about it. |

"Some of the best around."
by saxtor
(5 reviews) January 22, 2007 - Having grown up with Mexican restaurant-owning parents, I have managed to become rather jaded toward good Mexican food. It does exist, but even the best are variations on the standard rice/beans/something deep-fried plates. Cafe Moose is the blaring exception to this rule. Their menu looks more like something you'd see at a locals-only restaurant in a small Mexican town, with the attention to detail and character to go along with it. Nothing on their menu could be considered "standard," with even common dishes like enchiladas breaking the mold. The wait-staff is incredibly attentive and friendly and projected the "welcome to our family kitchen" attitude to us first-time visitors. This restaurant cannot come with a higher recommendation. One note: If it seems that the plates are a little heavy on the cojita cheese, it's probably because the chef knows how incredible it is, and wants you to know as well. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

"A breakfast favorite"
by Sky
(1 review) January 18, 2007 - I like a good Mexican breakfast, especially when choices go beyond huevos rancheros. Cafe Senor Moose offers a variety of interesting dishes, including a lighter one that's basically eggs poached in a mildly spicy tomato broth, with tortillas on the side. As a bonus, they pour a great cup of coffee, using beans from a small Mexican cooperative that's fair trade and eco friendly. Sky |

"Senor Moose"
by Amy Boyce
(10 reviews) December 12, 2006 - Breakfast at the Moose delights my husband who drools (not unlike a moose) at the sight of an egg within a cool mile of a tortilla. Usually he resigns himself to a humdrum huevos rancheros, but here they have a full page of spicy, beany huevos. I, on the other hand, don't have a thing for South of the Border breakfasts, per se, but have found their bottomless coffee the best drip in town and their egg sandwich yummalito. Not to mention the potato melange - a heap of potatoes covered o'er with cheese, sour cream and goodness. |
