"poor service, cold food."
by Trovomello
(2 reviews) June 24, 2007 - This was just a horrible experience. We went for brunch, and even the waiters were joking about about the service was. The eggs benedict was cold even a skin had formed on the hollandaise sauce, the english muffin it was on was was like cheap white bread, the sauce was supposed to be infused with truffle oil, didn't taste like that at all and was just bland. The "special" bloody mary didn't even come with an olive as advertised, when asked the waiter was clueless, and then finally came back and said they had run out of olives, yet clearly many others around us got some with olives and some without. this was a joke, it was Taco Bell grade service and food at best. |

"not impressed with brunch"
by muffintop1029
(85 reviews) May 13, 2007 - The mother's day brunch at Volterra was a disappointment. The bread basket, especially the almond clawfoot, was quite good. The rest of the dishes (wild mushroom eggs benedict prawn salad, chestnut pancakes, and bacon avocado scramble), however, were mediocre--nothing that couldn't be made at home or had for a few dollars less elsewhere. This being said, I'd like to try out their dinner on a return visit. |

"Always happy at Volterra."
by JenO
(14 reviews) December 24, 2006 - Volterra just makes you feel good. Its warm and not overpriced. I have tried several of the same items repeatedly and keep raving about them to everyone (like the wild mushroom/polenta/fontina appetizer). The house red wine is wonderful too. Don and Michelle work hard and it shows. |

"Hit or Miss"
by nicole
(3 reviews) December 04, 2006 - I have been to Volterra 3 times now and have to say that they are very inconsistent. The other night I ordered the Jumbo Prawns and they arrived cold and a bit tough. I also noticed they were gritty. The service was friendly but overly-willing to pull the plates from the table and move us along. I don't think I will go back to this restaurant. |

"Volterra unites Tuscan and Northwest cuisine"
by lizmcfadden
(3 reviews) November 08, 2006 - Known for its Tuscan-style cuisine, Volterra features the culinary work of Chef Don Curtiss, who has over 20 years experience. He centers the menu on uniting the charm of Tuscan tastes with a Nortwest flare. With a warm and inviting ambience, I enjoyed the roasted wild boar tenderloin with a lovely cream sauce made from gorgonzola and mustard (cinghiale al gorgonzola). I had the opportunity to also enjoy the spaghettini cio granchi, or thing spaghetti pasta tossed with spicy tomato sauce and Dungeness crab meat. Although their menu has probably changed (we went Fall 2005) I'm guessing they've got some new and exciting dishes that are worth the trip to Ballard. |

"heck, even the NYT raves about this place ..."
by johnnjill
(20 reviews) October 26, 2006 - Sure, Seattle may not need another Italian restaurant ... But unlike so many of the more fancy joints, this improptu restaurant specializes in Tuscan food. Lamb ragu with little ears. fresh antipasto. Fresh fish in parchment, bread with olive oil and salt. spagetti with crab meat. All are delicious. And the wine list is an Italian treat. Sit in the bar for a more upbeat atmosphere. Or enjoy the patio for dining el fresco when it opens in the spring. |
