July 23, 2009 - Really likes it - I love this place! Very nice family, Mama and Papa don't speak very much English but usually one of the 3 brother are around. Go on a weekend to have the grilled chicken and see Pablo sing Mexican music. Even the local gringa has a great time there! |

"Local Mexican done right"

March 05, 2009 - Likes it - I am such a sucker for good tacos. I loved the ones I had here. I ordered two chicken tacos which were delicious and authentic. The chicken was tender and prepared with lots of spices, and there was cilantro and pickled onion all on top of perfectly homemade tortillas. I also ordered a tamale. I got the rajas con queso (chiles and cheese). It was a teensy bit spicier than I usually like, but it was so good that it didn't matter. I loved the fresh ingredients and obvious care the people who own this place have out into it. It's a hole-in-the-wall I would like to come back to. It's cheap, delicious, and much much healthier than Azteca (which relies on refried beans and cheese). |

"The Real Deal"

October 27, 2008 - Likes it - This is exactly what you're looking for in a taqueria: authentic, full-flavored Mexican food prepared with care but without a fuss. There's a large menu that is heavy on meats (including parts not knowingly served in American-food restaurants), supplemented with almost as many posted "specials" that did not have translation/explanation. One popular dish was a fragrant tray of mixed grilled meats that came to the table with its own warming station to keep it sizzling hot.On a Sunday afternoon, I was the only non-Spanish-speaker in the place. The nice elder gent taking my to-go order had to lean on someone younger (son, manager?) to answer my questions about (ahem) vegetarian options. Of which there were only a few: several kinds of tamales, gorditas (a stuffed corn tortilla http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordita), a grilled chiles dish. (The beans were made without lard.)The food was fresh and high quality. The dozen or so tables had young families, mothers with children, groups of young men -- the scene was almost too wholesome, and all seemed very happy and content with what they were eating. 2 people like this review Recommend |
