January 08, 2009 - Likes it - I use to live in Japan for over 20 years and I finally found a place that serves real Japanese food. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say fish here isn't fresh. I've been here over 10 times and it's better than any other japanese place I've been too. I recommend fish or the day or Salmon Foil, and for sushi ask them if they got fish like Aji or Tai. For rolls, try island Roll or lobster Roll. |

January 08, 2009 - Likes it - The cooked items are good. The sushi is OK - and we eat sushi frequently enough. It's wonderful to have at the south end of the island. |

"On the expensive side, but delicious"

December 20, 2008 - The back-and-forth of positive and negative reviews here is kind of unsettling, but personally, I really like Yuzen. When it first opened, it was quite slow and the service can still be pretty slow, but it's not too bad. The sushi is excellent, and they have a wide variety of things to choose from. If you're just looking for someplace to grab some california rolls, you can find cheaper and faster places, but if you're looking for something new this could be the place. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, and while it's not difficult to find a table it's never empty either.I like it. |

"Pass on this place"

August 11, 2008 - Doesn't like it - Well, after my first attempt at Yuzen my recommendation is to take your business elsewhere... It took an hour for 3 sushi rolls and an udon soup (and they weren't even busy)... The waiter was nice an apologetic, but even after we starting asking where our food was, it still took another 25 minutes... And the sushi was medicore at best - the udon soup was plain and looked like it was from a store package... Pass on this place and go to the one on the north end of the island - 1 person likes this review Recommend |

July 22, 2008 - Likes it - this is a great sushi place and it's really close to me. I'm glad that there is tasty and fresh sushi on the southend! if you haven't already try the Trojan roll. If you want something really special try the Godzilla roll, with eel and cream cheese, yum! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"An Excellent Japanese Restaurant"
by Senpai Bill

June 28, 2008 - Likes it - I've eaten many times at Yuzen, by myself and with friends. The food is fresh and very well prepared. I would consider it one of the finest Japanese Restaurants in the Pacific Northwest, and I've eaten at quite a few. The negative reviews that you may have read below were obviously written by spoilers; teenagers or misfits who've never eaten at Yuzen, and who think it's a kick to write a phony review. The service at Yuzen is friendly and attentive. The owners, Takaya and Kiyo, are hard working and love both good food and a good laugh. I've sent visiting Japanese to Yuzen on my recommendation, and they told me that it was like home. I couldn't recommend it more highly. 3 people like this review Recommend |

June 08, 2008 - Really likes it - I have been going here every time I visit my friends on Mercer Island and it has become a favorite of ours. They have expanded their menu and at the last time, I tried the hot Korean seafood soup which was marvelous - red hot and full of prawns, scallops, calamari and white fish.We always order the salmon nigiri because it is often on special at $1.00 each - and the quality is great - the salmon is fresh and buttery. We have eaten here at least half a dozen times in the past 6 months and have never been disappointed. Service was friendly, and the place is usually crowded. I look forward to our next visit later this month. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"My new favorite!"

April 11, 2008 - I went in the other day, and tried the tuna, salmon and yellowtail which they are currently serving for a dollar a piece. I was really impressed, the salmon in particular was far and away some of the best I've had in a long time and the sushi chef convinced me to try the spanish mackerel, which I had never had before. The service was great, and I'll definitely be going back. |

"Finally! Good sushi!"

April 04, 2008 - Likes it - It's hard to find good sushi, surprisingly, in Seattle. I eat at Yuzen regularly (at least once per month) and am always impressed the quality and taste of their food as well as the friendliness of the staff. Mr. Hanamoto carefully prepares the sushi himself as he chats and laughs with you at the bar. They offer great deals at lunch time and I love their brown-rice tea - a nice change from the usual fare. My favorite splurge is the Siberian Roll, some crispy veggie tempura alongside the maguro nigiri at lunch time. |

March 21, 2008 - Likes it - My family has eaten here at least 2 dozen times. The fish is always very fresh. It is clearly one of the best sushi reataurnats in the Seattle area. I have eaten at many of them and in Japan as well and I know what I am talking about. When the restaurnt first opened the service was slow. They have since hired more epople and it is much improved. Howvwer keep in mind that good sushi takes some time to put together.I can only guess that the previuos posts were from Yuzen's competition. 2 people like this review Recommend |

January 11, 2008 - Doesn't like it - All I have to say is their sushi is the worst in the Northwest... Even non-Japanese like myself can tell that they are using old, stale fish. Furthermore, they don't even have green tea! what kind of japanese restaurant that offers sushi doesn't carry green tea! Seriously, not a place to eat. 2 people like this review Recommend |

October 23, 2007 - Doesn't like it - My favorite Japanese restaurants in Seattle are I love sushi, Shiros and Kisaku. If I rate these restaurants out of 10, 10 being the best, I love sushi : 7Shiros: 8Kisaku: 7 Yuzen is easily 1. Meaning the worst Japanese restaurant... The sushi here is so bad that QFC sushi tastes fabulous. 5 people like this review Recommend |

October 21, 2007 - Doesn't like it - They serve the worst sushi in Seattle. The fish were stale, not fresh and on top of that the service was the worst I have ever received. It was my first time, and hopefully the last time, to leave without leaving a tip. The fish was dry and the chef didn't know how to make sushi. You can actually buy better fish at Uwajimaya and make your own. The fish they served was not anywhere close to sushi-quality, it was more like dried fish... The waitress didn't refill any of our drinks or even asked for it. They didn't say thank you or anything when we left. Our whole family got diarrhea the next day... 3 people like this review Recommend |
