"I'll be back"

November 09, 2009 - Likes it - I went to Oddfellows last Friday for a night out with some friends from Montreal. The atmosphere at the restaurant is industrial chic with decor accents that warm the room up. The quaint dining room is very unique with one long metal table (shared by all patrons), a roaring fireplace and statues. Mostly a hipster crowd was in attendance this evening, and while I am not a hipster myself, it certainly didn't bother me, but my company was somewhat distracted by their overwhelming presence...but I digress...The food was phenomenal we shared the duck liver pate with crispy baguette slices served with a berry compote, crushed nuts (I think they were walnuts) crumbled on top of a delicate dollop of honey. My significant other ordered the quail with arugula, crème fraiche, sausage and fingerling potatoes, while I ordered the ricotta gnudi with a poached baby tomato sauce, arugula and parmesan cheese. Both were done to perfection. Our guests from Montreal ordered the buffaloaf - bison, mushroom, bacon, mashed potato, baby carrots and ketchup and the tempeh stew (cremini mushroom, cherry tomato, farm vegetables, red wine, barley in a vegetable broth). I think the stew was the least awe-inspiring but it's a good vegetarian option. The dessert options could have used more effort and pizzazz - we shared a warm brownie with chocolate ice cream (baked in-house I suppose) along with a root beer float - both were good, but not memorable. 2 people like this review Recommend |

"Very Unique"

July 18, 2009 - Likes it - I went to Oddfellows two weeks ago with a party of four. Overall I have to say that this place is great. At first I was a little weary of the idea of sitting next to strangers for dinner, but we ended up chatting and having a great night in parallel with a couple of guys from the neighborhood. We ordered 4 dishes to share amongst us and were really glad that we did. All the food was amazing and the service was great. They also have a couple of unique beers that I have never seen anywhere else that were quite good.I will go back ... I would love to bring enough people to fill the restaurant! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Industrial Design meets Great Food"

December 16, 2008 - Really likes it - Small place with one big table. Great warm vibe with fireplace. Food is a great mix from a Bison Burger to upscale French-influenced fare. Duck liver pâté, beef ribs all are Great! Some interesting beers and wines.Very cool space with elements from the owners Industrial Design background. Very different place has added to the Queen "very west" crowd of great spots to eat. Some people call the place Castor. 7 people like this review Recommend |
