"One of the best kept secrets in Dallas" by Joe Thompson (16 reviews)
May 27, 2009 - Likes it - This French restaurant opened last year sometime by a French family that is most definitely authentically French and you can tell that by the first time you hear one of them talk. They have tons of family recipes and even though I do like some better than others they are all good.
It is really what you always want in a restaurant, family run with a sense of authenticity, ages old family recipes, and good prices. I am partial to their Apple Tatin (mmm mmm good)

"Still Love Normandie Alliance" by Mike (31 reviews)
January 16, 2009 - Likes it - I read texchef's review on here and wanted to say how much we like Normandie Alliance.  I do think he has a lot of good points and I do have some of the same complaints, but I find the general focus to be way to harsh.
Normandie Alliance definitely has a minimalist feel that reminds be more of some of the actual towns in France than say some of the corporate restaurants that hang tricycles and random old looking signs and such things on the wall to make it look old and worn in.  I always have an intial feel of comfort in those type places and then sometimes step back and wonder if the sign is actually old or just fabricated the week before.  Regardless, if you want a lot of clutter around Normandie Alliance is not your place.
The other two things about Normandie Alliance that people need to know is that it is not fancy and thus it is also not expensive, and also it is authentic to France in both style and food.  I feel like some people want to compare it to a fancier places even though sandwiches are $6 and crepes are $8.  I actually think it has a way nicer feel then most restaurants in its price range especially outside but even inside.  I love the food, but some of the things especially the sandwiches are not for everyone.  They are made like they are made in France and are good if you grew up with them or give them a chance but if you are expecting a Potbelly sandwich then it isn't your place.  If you are not used to French food, then order one of the crepes, the Forestiere is a safe bet.  It is chicken and button mushrooms in a crepe.  Very tasty!  I am also a softie for the Apple Tatin there but I always order the Nutella crepe because it is hard to pass up.
They usually always have a special or two there which I usually get as an entree and they haven't steered me wrong yet.

"Go for the dessert crepes!" by AT4 (6 reviews)
January 14, 2009 - Likes it - While Normandie Alliance has great food at a great price, the best part is dessert.  The crepe with nutella will make you feel like you are in Paris!

"Flat and Uninspired" by texchef (4 reviews)
January 10, 2009 - Doesn't like it - My wife and I went here after consulting Urban Spoon for something different on a Saturday afternoon.  At noon there was only one other table seated although a few others came in after us.  I would have to say I find it hard to argue with the Observer review of the restaurant itself.  I am into minimalism and keeping it simple but NA leaves A LOT to be desired in the way of ambiance.  With such a rich tradition of French décor and flair for the romantic I found it incredibly cold and uninviting.  It looked like an abandoned sports bar.  It is important to note in the 8 years I have lived in the area this space has been occupied by no less than 4 bars or restaurants.  It still smelled of faint stale cigarettes and in every line of sight there is a black screened TV.  Here’s an idea, if you are not going to have them on, take them down and possibly invest in a small music system rather than the small radio in the corner that is drowned out by the hum and echoing crash of ice from the ice maker in the dining room.  Apart for the sports bar TVs everywhere the bar has been turned into a buffet/ waiters station/ cooking area (presumably for the buffet, it was not in operation while we were there).  Another small but important décor matter was there was still Christmas decoration up.  I like Christmas but by this time it was Jan. 10… time to take it down.  The thing that made me most crazy and certain I was witness to a total give up was the door leading to the kitchen.  Every time it swung open it moaned like a dying bird amplifyed by a concrete floor, brick wall and plate glass windowed room.  Te dining room has the feel of a racquetball court.  We mentioned it to our waiter who said he was aware of it when they put the cover back on the hinge it started making that noise and laughed it off.  Well… how ‘bout taking the cover off and hitting it was some WD-40 or cooking spray or olive oil or anything?  Hell, even butter.
On to the food.  I had a bowl of the onion soup and a sandwich, the Lyon/Dallas which the menu states is French salami and butter on a baguette.  The salami looked like nothing more than deli ham and tasted no different.  The baguette looked great but tore the roof of my mouth all to hell.  I find it a bit crazy to charge $8 for a few slices of ham, a smear of butter on a baguette.  Thankfully, I had the soup (which was quite good) to soften the bread.  My wife had the Forestiere gallette (chicken in a buckwheat crepe) and a salad, she seemed to like it  Again with the minimalist concept the salad was nothing more than field greens, a few onions and a thin balsamic dressing.
The concept.  Wow, where to begin.  First, high points for keeping everything natural and organic and relatively healthy which can be a challenge in French cuisine and above all simple.  But simple does not have to mean uninspired.  Take my sandwich for example, 3 components; bread, meat, butter about 10 to 12 inches and served cold.  Instead how about half the size, toasted, sub the butter for some brie, maybe a fig or apricot spread, some lettuce and thin slice tomato and a small side of greens or a simple pasta salad.  Sound more interesting?  It would certainly look more appealing with all the colors and smells as it arrives to the table rather than a monotone chunk of stuffed bread on a white plate and might I suggest finding a softer baguette.  Where’s that French passion and flare?  We’re talking about one of the greatest culinary cultures that has ever existed.  It is apparent that NA was opened on a shoestring budget and I can understand that, especially with the given economic climate but with that being the situation the name of the game is getting butts in seats and mouths talking about your restaurant, your baby, your dream.  I see nothing to motivate me to go back.  The concept has such great potential but falls so flat.  I mean this with all sincerity, best of luck to you.

"We love this new restaurant" by Mike (31 reviews)
October 02, 2008 - Likes it - Normandie Alliance is fantastic, a breath of fresh air in the North Dallas restaurant scene!
We went there the other night took a bottle of wine (Normandie Alliance is BYOB), sat on the outdoor deck next to the fountain, and had some really good (and very reasonably priced) French cuisine.
The crepes are really good, especially the dessert crepes.  The nutella crepe (as a number of reviewers on here have stated) is amazing!
This restaurant just feels different.  It is not a chain, It is authentic, It is good, It is real; I can't do all that much to describe it but we were very very pleasantly surprised with our whole dining experience.

"This Place is Starting to Catch On" by Mark (1 review)
September 20, 2008 - Likes it - I've been going to Normandie Alliance since it opened (a couple months).  The food has always been excellent and inexpensive  At first, their business was a little slow, but the last 3 or 4 times I've been there, it's been busy.  With the cool weather finally here it seems everyone gravitates to the patio.  A cool breeze usually blows thru the palm trees and the fountain is relaxing to be around.  It's BYOB, so bring your own wine or beer (they'll gladly ice it down for you.)  Try it one time, you'll like it!
