"Comfortable & reliable spot"

May 26, 2008 - Likes it - The people who own and operate this place are some of the nicest. It is a neigborly spot, and yes, sometimes there are little ones who can disrupt grown ups trying to have a quiet meal and conversation. There are at least a dozen tables offering views of the outside traffic, beyond the filled windowboxes; in season one can take their food outside to enjoy at the tables as well. There does not seem to be much variety some nights, but the reliability of old stand-bys is there. In addition to items that one can buy by the spoonful and have heated as needed, there are also sandwiches and salads. Regrettably, while the pastry case with cookies and other goodies looks outstanding, often a choice can be disappointing and the selection does not seem as fresh as it should. Cupcakes look tempting and have delicious buttercream but reveal a dry cake beneath. Having a cup of soup, something from the case, and a cookie and beverage can easily approach a $15 bill. Be forewarned that entrees and sides in the case are sold by weight, which can quickly add up.It still has much appeal, and many items are very good. 1 person likes this review Recommend |
