"All around poor service, overpriced"
by Kimberly
(4 reviews)
November 04, 2009 - Doesn't like it - Of all my dining experiences, Sweet Melissa's is #1 for inconsiderate and slow wait staff. I felt rushed from the moment I was seated to the time I signed the check. It seemed as I was an inconvenience rather than a guest. The food is nothing special and overpriced for a diner type lunch/brunch restaurant. In my opinion, Sweet Melissa's is the worst restaurant in Lakewood by far. Do not waste your time or your money on this establishment. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

October 20, 2009 - Doesn't like it - The past two time I've dined at Sweet Melissa's the staff has been extremely rude, slow moving and inconsiderate. I will not return to this establishment nor will I recommend it to anyone. Spend your money elsewhere -such as, Liquid Planet, Latitude 41n, First Watch, etc for breakfast/brunch NOT SWEET MELISSAS! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"I wanted to love it~"

October 11, 2009 - We went for Sunday brunch, and I wanted to love it! The menu gave me such high hopes, with many organic offerings, and it seemed like this was a place that really put care into quality ingredients...which was why I was sad to see my very disinterested server fill my orange juice glass from a gun, like at a bar. I was expecting fresh juice after reading the seemingly detail and quality oriented menu, but not even concentrate orange juice?! Then when my pancakes came out, I was practically drooling. Especially after reading on the menu that they were served with maple syrup. Oops, that must have been a typo, as they were served with some thick gloopy syrup that didn't even taste mapley. Good intentions, but they dropped the ball.As they say, the devil is in the details. Sweet Melissa's could use a little refining on those details at their prices. And friendly, interested service would be a nice touch. |

"my first visit"
by DF

July 30, 2009 - I had the artichoke appetizer and the goat cheese salad w/chicken. Everything was very yummy. However, very pricey...salad was $11, $7 without the chicken. The artichoke appetizer had 5 pieces for $7. The waitress was friendly when we sat down, however, when it came time to pay her attitude changed. Like she couldn't wait for us to leave. I am not sure if I would go back. Too pricey for lunch. 3 people like this review Recommend |

"One of our favorite restaurants!"

June 08, 2009 - Likes it - Since reopening from the shell of the closed Max's Deli, Sweet Melissa's has gotten better and better.Last Sunday, we stopped in for Sunday Brunch -highly recommended and a great value (I had the Veggie Omlette with Whole Wheat toast and my wife had the twin Belgian waffles. Very good (and the fruit and potatoes that accompanied the dishes were incredable!)Service was prompt and very helpful. Coffee was very tasty. Today I stopped in for a light dinner (Nicoise Salad) which was very well prepared and a generous helping. Dinners are -to me- a smidge pricey (Entree Salad was $12.) Service was excellant and friendy. Place is very clean. Other favorites - pistacio crusted grouper, fried green tomatoes and eggplant bake (like eggplant parmesan).... 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"GREAT!"

April 17, 2009 - I went to Sweet Melissa's Saturday morning for lunch. The breakfast menu was still available, they open now at 8:00 on weekends. Our sever Amy was excellent. She recommended the corned beef hash, great you can tell it was made there, not some pre-packaged product. My frend ordered a salad with chicken, it was huge, fresh, and beautiful. I understand they use as much organic and fresh product as they can. I don't pay attention to my groceries and shopping as much as I like. It's good to feel like someone else is looking out for me. Thank you. |

"Awful Service.. Period"
by Chauncy Cover

March 24, 2009 - Doesn't like it - I agree with a lot of the negative reviews on here. The first 2 times I visit Sweet Melissa's the food was pretty good but the service was lacking at best. The food made want to come back (veggie omelette)The third trip back, however, I was appalled by the awful service. The entire staff was RUDE! From our server to the runners to the managers, it's as if they didn't need my business. After I had to get up and go to the bar for silverware, our food came out wrong and was slammed down on a book that was being read on the table because the plate was "too hot". My food order was wrong then I was overcharged at the end.At the end of the meal, a person I was with accidentally left something behind and when she went back to retrieve it, a male worker made a very inappropriate remark to her. The visit bothered me so much that I wrote a letter to Melissa and her husband (the owners) and still have not heard back. That was in mid-February, it is now the end of March.I will never go back nor recommend Sweet Melissa's to anyone. I wish Max's was still there. They at least cared then. This place needs to turn itself around or it will go out of business. I can easily go across the street to First Watch or the Pub. Good luck. 7 people like this review Recommend |

"A friendly welcome and a meal to remember"
by Mr Gigglz
(1 review)
January 31, 2009 - Likes it - With a wide variety of menu choices I didn't know where to begin yet my server quickly and warmly pointed me into the right direction. After several releshed visits, I found out that one can not go wrong with the buffalo chicken wrap or chicken parm. Though other reviews seem rather harsh, these servers give it their all and are quite friendly. 2 people like this review Recommend |

"Mediocre food and indifferent service"
by The Grumpy Gastronome
(1 review)
December 20, 2008 - Doesn't like it - What is it fair to expect from a restaurant where, without ordering alcohol or dessert, you can expect to get out the door after having spent less than 50 bucks for a dinner for two? A meal that lives in memory for years to come? No; that would be unfair. How about some acceptable combination of decent-to-good food and pleasant, attentive service? I think that this latter expectation is eminently reasonable, especially in troubled economic times, and especially in an area that offers quite a few dining options in the same price range. On three visits to SM over the past five months, I've found the food to be mediocre at best. The fried fish was okay, the accompanying fries were soggy and slimy. The cole slaw on the fish platter was probably the best thing I had there. The matzo ball soup tastes like it was made with bouillon cubes (although the ball itself was nice and fluffy). The fried chicken was dry. All in all, one can do better at a number of nearby places for the 20 to 30 bucks per head that it costs to eat at SM. So much for the food. But the really offensive thing about this place is the indifferent service. On two of my visits, my waitress was a woman who had all of the etiquette and grace of a corrections officer at a maximum security prison. On my most recent visit, just several hours ago, the server at least attempted a smile, but lacked the kind of pleasant and welcoming attitude that I would expect from a place in this price range. As it did in its previous incarnation as Max's Deli, this restaurant somewhat incongruously features an array of expensive gourmet desserts. I myself was disinclined to run up my already inflated bill and extend my stay there after the less than adequate meals and service that I had experienced. I hope that someone on the management staff of Sweet Melissa's reads this review and takes what I have to say to heart. In the end, the problems that I've described reflect poorly on them. I wonder if management there is paying attention and simply doesn't notice these things, or if they are simply not paying attention: neither explanation reflects well on their dedication to their job.Times are tough, and it is not a nice feeling to have spent one's hard-earned dollars for a mediocre meal presented by servers who are, at best, indifferent to their customers-especially when those dollars are now harder to earn than ever and don't go nearly as far as they did just a short time ago.The feelings of patrons like me are not important in themselves, but they do translate into lost revenue because people who have had the kinds of experiences at a dining establishment that I've had at SM are most unlikely to return there--or to recommend it to others. And it seems probable, on the face of it, that others have had similar experiences, although I rather doubt that most of the others who have come away unhappy take the time to register their disappointment on forums like this. Instead, they simply don't come back. And these are facts that do impact the bottom line.GG 8 people like this review Recommend |
