"Well-presented food with a bit of a wait."
by Mike Beattie
(10 reviews)
January 31, 2010 - Likes it - I went to Franklin Inn for the first time on a Saturday night, and it was packed; so packed, that I had to wait for an hour to get a table. Then again, that's par for the Saturday night course. The food, however, was surprisingly good. I was aiming for vegetarian and ordered one of only two vegetarian options--the portobello/grilled veggie fajita and a burrito of the same. I was actually somewhat surprised by the abundance of fresh veggies that resulted from my fajita order. Everything from peppers/onions to zuchini to broccoli--plus the 1/4" portobello slices on top. Everything was fresh and only minimally sauteed, which really led to some fresh/crisp veggies without any sense of being greasy. You really had a chance to taste the vegetables. If I were to complain about one aspect, it would be that the veggies could have used just a hair more seasoning. The fresh presentation really let some veggie flavors come through, but the ensemble could have really used a little bit more seasoning. Herbs, salsa, hot sauce....I wouldn't want to overdo it, but something was missing. I also could have gone for some additional protein in the entree. Black beans would have been a nice touch, for example.Overall, though, I'm a big fan with a few minor nitpicks. |

November 24, 2009 - Likes it - My husband and I are seasoned travellers and we used to live in Colorado. This is the best Mexican restaurant of Western Pennsylvania! Their margaritas are good! Yum! There's plenty of food to go around too ;) |
