"Perfect for a romantic night out"

April 20, 2009 - Likes it - Truffles is another one of those restaurants that seems to be populated entirely by people aged 35+. This is unfortunate because far from being stuffy, Truffles is actually an ideal blend of relaxed and refined. The food is hardly nouvelle cuisine, but it is an excellent Americanized take on French favorites. Dress accordingly, and you'll feel perfectly comfortable here.Personally I think the real strengths of Truffles are the atmosphere and the fantastic wine list. Their wine list has been recognized as the best in America, and it's no joke. Unlike the usual meager selection of Italian and Californian wines seen around here, their wine list is more like a wine book, with varietals you probably haven't heard of from places you didn't even know made wine. Don't be afraid to ask for the advice of sommelier John Cain--he's entirely down to earth and probably the best sommelier in St. Louis, and he has introduced me to several of my favorite wines. Make sure to take the bottle home because you're unlikely to run across it on a wine rack, I always find myself placing special orders at Wine Merchant for my latest Truffles discovery.Want to try out the wine but don't feel like putting up for a full meal? Turns out Truffles actually has a lovely bar that serves the full menu as well, just in case you change your mind. |

"might be my favorite in STL"

February 20, 2009 - Really likes it - Absolutely fantastic meal from beginning to end. I had such a difficult time deciding what to order because everything on the menu looked so delicious. I ended up getting the roasted veal with bacon, mushrooms, and creamy polenta, and it was out of this world. I would have finished the whole thing if it weren't for the fact that I started out with the cheese plate, which had a wonderful selection. My boyfriend and I split the flourless chocolate cake for dessert- it was a little heavy for me, but I think that's because I was already so full from the rest of the meal. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I will definitely be going back. |
