"A main course of blah." by thefoodieassasin (1 review)
June 08, 2008 - My first, and only (ever ever never again), visit to Araka was a disappointing venture.  From the get go, the service was confused and un-attentive.  My guest and I started with a  sunchoke soup, topped with pancetta, and mussels.  The soup was too thick and at best warm, not hot.  The mussels still retained a chill, and the pancetta was rendered nicely on the outside, but chewy and fatty on the inside.  Let down #2 was the gnocchi appetizer.  A globule of potato and flour arrived, looking more like a scoop of mashed potatoes than gnocchi.  It was barely palatable.  Let down #3, the beef carpacio was drenched in olive oil, an olive paste, parmesean cheese, and some greens.   Definently too many competing flavors that competely blanketed the delicate taste of beef, which is why i like carpacio.  But no beefiness came through which was dissappointing.  Alas, let down # 4, the main course.  Amish Chicken was served nicely with a golden browned crispy skin, but it was salty.  The potatoes accompanying the chicken were grainy (undoubtedly the cook boiled the potatoes) the peas were raw and the carrots overcooked and flavorless.   All this at prices rivaling true fine dining establishments, like Gerard Crafts place and The Crossing.  Make your reservations elsewhere if you would like to enjoy a nice dinner.

"Not impressed" by DCook (3 reviews)
February 11, 2008 - We went in December with some business associates for dinner.
They were out of bacon and neglected to tell me until my entree came out and I noticed it was missing and I asked about the bacon.  Amish chicken had by another person was incredible!  But we were again let down at dessert, bread pudding was really dry and bland, "warm apple crisp" were ALL cold in the middle.  The food isn't worth the price, but the environment is very modern and impressive.

"Not Great" by beerbroker (1 review)
February 10, 2008 - First time visit on Feb.10, 2008. I plan to give it another try because I assume they were just having an off night.
My wife had the sea bass- dry, too small of a cut.
My veal chop was excellent and plentiful.
Dessert, pistachio cake was dry, but looked good on the plate.
Waiter, Garrett S had nice sideburns, but was smug and uncaring.
Coffee was not hot, and when I jokingly asked a busser to microwave it, he responded, "We don't have microwave's here", and walked away.
Atmosphere is fine, but this is St. Louis, MO folks, not NYC, get over yourselves.
Way too pricey for what we received. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'll just go to Dominic's on the hill and love it, as always.
