"Definitely memorable - go for it"

November 03, 2009 - Likes it - Beautiful restaurant with a really interesting, creative menu. Tame enough to appeal to alot of people, but in no way pedestrian. Went with the Wazwan sampler that had great flavors across a variety of proteins, including halibut ceviche, seared beef, grilled shrimp, and amazing tender chicken. Also delicious vegetables, fruit, bread, and rice. Really enjoyed the marinated pear chutney served with the rosemary naan. The dessert was also a delightful play on smores, with chocolate ice cream, bruleed marshmallows, and cookie crumbs. Would definitely return. Only complaint was that the first several courses came too quickly and made it feel like we needed to rush. |

September 15, 2009 - Likes it - We were there last night for the first time for the beer pairing menu. At first I didn't know what to expect because the only thing I knew about Tabla was it's chef's creation for Fresh Direct and I thought if he can do that with a fast heat and serve meal I would love to try his restaurant. I booked it for three to celebrate my sister's bday. The whole night was a wonderful experience. We were seted upstairs and ther service, the food and the beer pairing with Goose Island beer was sooooo wonderful! It blew my husband away because he is not a huge fan of Indian cuisines. The service was professional yet friendly. I can't wait to bring others to celebrate special events here. It is a place I will rave about for a long time. |

July 06, 2009 - Likes it - Great restaurant. Fine dining upstairs. Indian spices and influences. Downstairs the Bread Bar has perhaps the most evolved Indian fare in NYC. Plus, the 4 story MetLife vaults makes it one the best places to eat outdoors in the city. |

"Interesting take on Indian"

June 02, 2009 - We visited Tabla last night - specifically the Bread Bar, which was ok. The fare was decent, but I think some of the traditional Indian flavors were missing. I'm sure it was intentional as the chef (a James Beard nominee) attempts to marry halibut and watermelon and curry. Sometimes it works, sometimes is doesn't. Highlights - the Chana Chaat salad, garlic Naan, Tandoori Lamb, Berkshire Country Pork Pan Roast. Lowlights - none really, but the portions are exceedingly small for the price and when it's termed "family style", you expect larger portions. For example, the Pork Pan Roast features 3 small cuts of meat. You have 4 people. What to do? Stab until you get your meat. |
