"Great lunch!"

September 22, 2009 - Likes it - I wandered in to Po's for lunch today, and it was fantastic. I ordered the tomato tofu egg soup to begin. I asked about it, curious, because I was picturing some classic tomato soup concoction, but Po told me it would have fresh diced tomatoes in more of an egg drop like soup. It was delicious- you had the tang of the fresh tomatoes paired with a zip of spice. I would very much recommend ordering it.For my entree, I ordered the steamed dumplings. You get 6 in an order, and he lets you mix and match to your liking. I ended up with 2 each of chicken, vegetable, and shrimp. I tried to pinpoint my favorite, but they all tasted great. I think my lunch came to $8 or so, which I thought was a great price for the quality of food. I can't wait to take my fiance here soon! |

"An unrefined favorite"

September 08, 2009 - Likes it - I really like the food here, especially the dumplings & eggplant dishes. The atmosphere is a bit unrefined especially compared to other Chinese restaurants in the area (i.e. Blue Koi), but I like that about Po's. I appreciate how it is family owned and operated. Stay too late on a Sunday and you'll see Po's family settle in for their family feast. The family element, good food, & unrefined nature of the place make it seem more authentic to me, which is probably why I like it so much. |

"Homemade Noodles!"

June 10, 2009 - Likes it - I'd been wanting to stop into Po's due to the good reviews I've seen around. Today I had to go to Midtown (which I miss) and used the opportunity to check it out. As is mentioned, the dumplings were definitely homemade and pretty tasty. I got the Sesame Sauce Noodle which is basically a large bowl of delicious homemade noodles swimming in a brown sesame sauce. It comes with a side bowl of flavorful ground pork, which is also in a sauce, to go on top. Overall the dish was pretty good; I'd get it again (after trying several other things first)On this visit I also got to try the wonton noodle soup. The broth in this soup was very disappointing. It had almost no flavor. Really, it tasted like hot water over noodles, wontons, and some vegetables. I also sampled the sweet and sour chicken which was good for what it is. The crab rangoon were typical, the egg drop soup was very tasty. It had a distinct sesame flavor that I don't usually find in that type of soup.Overall, I'd recommend Po's, and I will probably try it again when I get a chance. |

"excellent with a caviat"

May 27, 2009 - Likes it - The food was superb. I wish I had been able to sample more items from the menu. Since 'dumpling' is in the name of the place, I had to try both the traditional pork dumplings as well as the shrimp. The pork were good; the shrimp were excellent. The entrees were quite tasty and portions generous. They have an interesting selection of hot teas as well as bubble tea. The deserts left a little to be desired, but that's not why you go there. My caviat has to do with how the food was served. I don't think I've ever seen it before were each person's entree was served individually up to 10 minutes apart. It wasn't just our table either. I noticed the other tables were served the same way. I'm glad we ordered appetizers. It would have been awkward for one of us to have food while the rest of us waited.I recommend going on a weekday not only because the place is small but also because parking is a challenge. |

"Absolutely Excellent Every Time!"
by MC

April 01, 2009 - Likes it - I hate to write this, because every time my husband and I go here it's a little more crowded, but it does thrill me to see this little place doing well in the current market. The servers are so nice (although sometimes there aren't enough servers for quick service). The food has been nothing short of excellent every time! Try the honey fried chicken and the pork and cabbage soup. HUGE portions! Kid-friendly, group-friendly, intimate couple night-friendly. Just all around wonderful! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"just what we needed!!!!"

February 08, 2009 - Likes it - We are somewhat new to the area; having lived in Northern California for a number of years. Granted, we are not dumpling connoisseurs; however, I thought the shrimp dumplings were great!!! Many establishments make dumplings with flavors that are overpowering - heavy on spices with a thick outside layer. This was not the case at all. Each flavor of the dumplings were nicely balanced. Initially, I wasn't too excited when my husband announced he had ordered the sweet, sour cabbage soup as I was anticipating something pretty brazen (if I can use this adj. to describe food) - I was pleasantly surprised - again the flavors were delicate, subtle yet tasty and flavorful. Many similar restaurants appear to focus more on the ambiance rather than the food and also seem to attract a "trendy' type of crowd. Po's ambiance is cozy, quaint, and and inviting. We definitely will return . . . perhaps tonight!!!!! 1 person likes this review Recommend |
