"Boston BBQ?"

December 16, 2009 - Likes it - So I had some Boston BBQ and while it was fine, it was nothing like quality authentic BBQ from the Midwest. However, the beer was cold and the service was nice, so I'm going to give it a "like" on that aspect alone. I also enjoyed the wheel of beers in the upstairs bar. I like surprise choices like that. |

June 13, 2009 - Doesn't like it - Whether you should go to Redbones depends on your perspective. Is good barbeque with some great sides worth: A) long lines, B) fugly interior, seating and noise C) sometimes loutish staff, D) fairly poor value. |

March 23, 2009 - Likes it - When I lived I'm Boston, RedBones was THEE place for BBQ. Now that I moved to north Carolina, I find myself wishing we had a redbones in the state known for Its BBQ. I always thought redbones was what the south was like, but really, the Carolina BBQ joints all feel like Denny's with pulled pork. WTF! Redbones spoiled me. |

"Get thee to RedBones"

March 23, 2009 - Likes it - My first pulled pork sandwich was here. None since have matched its memory. I was doing a summer course in Cambridge and in my first week there, one of my friends said he wanted to forgo cafeteria food and find Redbones. We walked all the way from Central Square to Davis Square, which at the time seemed like the longest walk in the world. (It didn't occur to us to take a cab or the Red Line.) We spurned opened eateries along the way, preferring to keep our appetite intact for the mythical food at Redbones. Finally, we came upon a dimly lit place, small and crowded, but smelling of brown sugar and meat. Heaven for sure! Drinks came in Mason jars and fried okra was the side dish of choice. The sandwich was a sticky mess, but smelled so good and the meat so tender there was no need for chewing. That first long odyssey for "the best food" has inspired many other quests. Sometimes that long walk ended in disappointment or meh results, but sometimes, like with Redbones, it's absolutely worth it! |

November 13, 2008 - Really likes it - Red's is great!! We have been going there for years. Some of the best ribs east of Memphis. My favoritedish is the spicy meatloaf. It tastes like it's made withfresh Alpo, Vidalla Onions, Chipotle chilies, and homestyle Gravy Train Gravy. they make it like my Mom usedto make it.Definitley go to Reds!! It's a homerun. 2 people like this review Recommend |

September 26, 2008 - Doesn't like it - When I first moved to Boston, this was the only joint in the area that offered BBQ and everyone raved about it as if it was a godsend for the northeast. First experience was less than favorable but was willing to give it another shot in case it was just an off night.Second trip there has the same results. Ribs were dry, service was that great. Nearly gave up on BBQ in Boston until Blue Ribbon opened up. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Take it from a Texan..."
by Nicole M

August 26, 2008 - Likes it - I guess there are enough critic reviews linked here to speak to the outrageous deliciousness of Red Bones, but just to drill it home, Red Bones has some of the best and most authentic bbq I've ever had. I think the one thing that Red Bones excels at that nearly every other bbq joint outside of the Lone Star state fails is their command of The BBQ Beef. The brisket and Texas ribs I would happily ship back home for judgment-- thick juicy cuts, with the perfect smoke ring and spice. The pork ribs are great as well, but I think they could be handily overshadowed by many reputable bbq joints between Arkansas and North Carolina. The Texas chili though? Forget it-- it's too thin and oily without any real depth of flavor. All in all, don't let the frequent crowds outside deter you from waiting for the best bbq in New England and excellent beer menu to boot (always something in cask!). 2 people like this review Recommend |
