"Sushi Good, Thai Bad"
by David Smith

October 24, 2009 - First, I can't compare this restaurant to what it used to be, only what it is now. Second, I am not a sushi snob by any means. I can tell good sushi from bad sushi and this is some of the best sushi in town. It's well put together and the fish is flavorful and fresh.Unfortunately, the Thai food is another story. It has more spice than flavor and the curry that I had was basically a bowl of spicy broth with four shrimp and a spoonful of vegetables. Oh, and a small cup of rice that was not nearly large enough to begin to make a dent in the broth they call curry. In short, stay with sushi and take a pass on the Thai. |

"Gone Downhill"

July 28, 2009 - I was a huge fan of Peter's when it first opened. Then there were some celebrity sightings, and the number of patrons exploded. Things were still good though - until they moved to the larger location. Now it's just another so-so sushi place. The formerly friendly staff now is not rude, but they are just too busy to bother with you. The last straw for me was when I went in to place a "to go" order, and couldn't get anyone to help me. Finally, while standing at the cash register, I called in my order to the person behind the register, who was more concerned with answering the phone than with helping people who were actually in the restaurant. Further, when I got my order home after a 40 minute wait, the sushi was only average. I will not be returning any time soon. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Amazing food...Amazing staff!"

June 13, 2009 - Likes it - There's a reason this place is frequented by Kix Brooks (Brooks & Dunn) and Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban! The food is amazing. I've never been disappointed in anything I tasted. Well, maybe once the miso was too salty, but that was once. I've tried sushi all over town and still my heart belongs to Peter. Peter, his wife and staff are wonderfully gracious! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Totally overrated."

June 04, 2009 - Doesn't like it - Tried this place and once was enough. Vegetable rolls had been premade, and the rice paper was dry and crusty. Sashimi was so-so. We tried a couple of the specialty rolls and they flat-out sucked. I just cannot understand why people think this is the best place in town. |

"Slightly Overrated"

April 11, 2009 - Likes it - Peter's has a lot of hype, and is close to where I work. When I stick with the classics, I am always pleased. However, when I try their specialty rolls, I feel like I'm getting more rice than anything. The staff is super friendly, and that helps! 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Best (traditional) sushi in Nashville!!"
by HossJ13

September 15, 2008 - Likes it - So I divide the sushi world into two major categories: traditional, with standard California rolls, futomaki, crunchy shrimp etc. and non-traditional with maki containing anything from mango to chicken to asparagus to jalapenos. For the non-traditional, Virago is the place to go. For traditional, there's no one in Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford or Sumner that can TOUCH Peter's Thai & Sushi in Brentwood.Peter's fish is always top-notch, textbook perfect. Fresh, great tasting, never "stale" or odd tasting like you might get in some of the lesser places in town. Preparation and presentation are always beautiful...Peter's work is nothing if not the epitome of sushi as "edible art." Before you expect humdrum same-old-same-old items though, think again...Peter may have mastery of the standards you'd expect from an "authentic" sushi bar, but he's also fantastic with subtle variations and embelishments that bring you new and exciting tastes without making you wonder if the chef is from California rather than Tokyo. Try the Volcano roll, served tempura-style with a spicy mayonaise sauce with JUST enough heat to warm you up without blowing your head off...or the Husband-and-Wife roll, a double-sized roll with a wonderful blend of fishes that just seem to melt in your mouth. The service is top-notch as well, especially once you become a regular (as you're sure to do). Tonya is a joy that will always bring a smile to your face, and the other ladies are just as wonderful. In short: take the drive to Brentwood!! It's definitely worth the extra gas!! 1 person likes this review Recommend |
