"best sushi restaurant ive been to"
by lparadisea
(1 review) January 27, 2008 - I've been to many upscale sushi restaurants, but Yamato Westwood is the best I've been to. The sushi is very fresh and the atmosphere is so comfortable but also serene. Servers were very nice and polite. Kitchen food was very interesting, but once tasted everything exceeded my expectations. I dont usually order dessert at sushi restaurants, but with their assortment of mochi ice creams and plated desserts ranging from a ginger molten cake to green tea creme brulee, how could you resist?

(1 review) January 16, 2008 - I love this restaurant!! The food is great, the service is great, and the ambience is beyond great. We have been there four times, and each time want to come back again soon. What a great addition to Westwood. 4 people like this review - Recommend

"a great new sushi restaurant in westwood"
by Casey
(1 review) January 07, 2008 - my boyfriend and I wanted to get some good sushi last Saturday so we decided to try this new place. When we arrived, the hostess welcomed us warmly and she led us to the table on the balcony. If you go as a couple, I recommend the table. The service was mediocre but the food was great. We had two bottles of sake and lots of sushi, which came out to be around $120. Not too bad for the amount of good quality sushi we had. Overall, it was a good choice.

"great dishes, terrible servers"
by samantha
(1 review) December 28, 2007 - Sushi and kitchen menus were so great yet so reasonable price. I can't believe we can eat such nice dishes with that price. The head sushi chef is from Matsuhisa. It's same great sushi at Matsuhisa, but price is way cheaper. Kitchen menus were great too. I loved "shu-mai" and poki salad. However, the hostess and the servers were just horrible. When we got there, the hostess asked if we made a reservation and also asked if we "know" any sushi chef. It seemed not busy, actually only a couple of groups there, but she looked us like "I'm not invited you!" Do we have to be friends of any chef to get in a restaurant?Servers weren't trained at all. They can't take orders. They keep making mistakes many times, and they are always gone when we need them. Sushi chefs were working as servers too. I felt sorry for them.I really wanted to give entire tip only for sushi chefs. It's just unfair that servers could get tip too. I would give 20% if sushi chef could take everything, but ZERO for servers. Anyway, if those staffs other than chefs were well trained, it will be a great restaurant. Again, dishes and price were so great. You should try once. 4 people like this review - Recommend |
