"could've been better..."

August 19, 2008 - had large party on back patio...decent food but poor service and ambiance! we were only given 1 server to bartend, serve food and bus tables. she was nice but too busy to give good service. spent way too much $$ to have had to tray passed food to my guests. the owner was there and never checked to see how we were. overall, was disappointed and thought it could've been better. |

"I love this place!"

July 24, 2007 - Likes it - Every time I have visited Eight-18, I have found it to be a wonderful experience. I like it so much, I try to go as much as possible. The wine list changes every 6 weeks or every other month & I love being able to try the new wines. The food is delicious. I try different items every time I come in but my favorite dishes are the short rib sliders, mac & cheese, and the risotto. Yum! The atmosphere in the front can get a little loud & hectic so if you are looking for quiet just ask for a table in the back or on the patio. Reservations are highly suggested. If you have not been to Eight-18, check it out! |

"Overpriced and Somewhat Disappointing"

June 28, 2007 - Doesn't like it - The wine was very good, but really expensive. They didn't have much of a selection below $10 and more of the wine tended towards the $13-$18 range. I've had wine for less that was just as good. And for that kind of money they could give you a bigger pour. Also, the waitress seemed like it was her first day on the job. She didn't know how dishes were prepared, she forgot to bring things and then our tapas came before our cheese. Plus the cheese portions were a little light for $15. $12 may have been more appropriate. And while the food all looked good, I didn't even want to try the lamb as $24 seemed excessive for what is considered a small plate. The Valley desperately needs a great wine place -unfortunately I don't know if this is it. Pity. |

"Heavy handed, poor service."

March 14, 2007 - Doesn't like it - We were seated at a table with no silverware or napkins on it, a blank slab of wood, which remained that way until our first course came. Two of us were given ONE MENU to share. Is it really that hard to procure a second menu so I don't have to crane my neck across the table? Dishes were over-spiced (why is a haricot vert salad with prosciutto laced with salt??) and hastily displayed for the price. I was thoroughly unimpressed with everything I had. Skip it. |

"Dark and salty makes for a decent date."

March 09, 2007 - Doesn't like it - The list of food on the menu sounds a bit fancy. We opted for:Mac&Cheese - mildly flavored cheesey sauce on rotini, on a bed of spinach and bacon. Pasta was tasty - the veggie and meat bed was delicious because anything with bacon is, but a bit saltly. Foie Gras with berries and mocha mousse - served slightly cold, and the mousse flavor was very... moussey. Something was incredibly salty but there were too many things going on to determine what it was. Overall, too many taste sensations to be a very good dish.Crab Cakes - delicious. Served with an aioli sauce. Not as authentic as those you can get on the East Coast, but the most tasty selection of the night.Endive and Proscuitto Salad - too salty to have more than one bite. My boyfriend enjoyed it thought, so if you a palatte that can tolerate too much salt, you might enjoy.Cheese Plate - their cheese list is pretty decent, although they were out of a couple of the selections that we wanted. We went with 3 selections for $15, and 2 were successful options. The 3rd was inedible, but just a bad guess on our part. Carafe of Ecluse Syrah - was a delicious wine selection. We were told they were almost out of it, so must be a popular selection. Wine list is varied, both in selection and price. Our table ended up being a bit small for the admittedly piggish number of dishes we chose, but the timing of the serving was also a bit off. The first dishes came out only a few minutes after the cheese plate, and we ended up feeling a bit rushed. I'd go back again, but probably only for wine at the bar. |
