"Date place"
by Senora Grayson

March 02, 2010 - Likes it - The restaurant itself is very pleasing to the eye. It screams, "Bring your date here!" Food is really good & you can tell the people preparing your meal are passionate about what they are doing. One prob, some of the seafood is frozen & they don't use saffron in the paella (trust!) which is still good but its a little pricey to not have it. Just saying.. |

"On the fence"

December 07, 2009 - Likes it - This is a cute little Spanish place on Esplanade. There is a spirited ambience in the small dining room. We started with an Abita and glass of sangria, which was refreshing. Then came the little rolls with fresh garlic butter (delicious) but why do they charge $0.50 for each one? We had the garlic shrimp appetizer, which was very tasty but not otherworldly. I am no expert on paella, but Lola's kind of reminds me of Rice-a-Roni. We had the combination paella, which includes a little of everything -- chicken, fish, sausage, seafood. It was a little on the cold side. It was like they dumped leftovers of each different paella into one skillet and then served it. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Paella - no"

November 25, 2009 - Doesn't like it - I don't understand why everyone loves the paella. They don't do it right! There's not enough saffron in the dishes, if it all. The paella is OK... just not paella. It's rice in a pan with some seafood or meat. Pretty tasteless. That said, the other dishes are decent, and the garlic butter with the rolls is fabulous! Just don't go hoping for authentic paella. |

"very authentic; funky"

August 30, 2009 - Likes it - Spanish. Open 7 days for dinner only. Funky bohemian. $12-29 entrees. $18 rainbow trout with pesto sauce, rice and steamed veg. was large and very delicious. $18 duck w/ fig reduction, w/ mashed potatoes and 6 steamed asparagus was decent. I didn't like that the shrimp in the shrimp pasta was not de-veinned. But they made a kid's portion for just $6. The garlicy butter spread for the hot bread was excellent. Very authentic. Music and atmosphere is sophisticated, yet casual and kid friendly. Semi-open kitchen. Lots of local art for sale on the wall from French pop-artist Simon, and others. Cool location near Fortier Park. I didn't like the censorious notes on the back of the menu: "cash and check only ID required!," "NO smoking allowed," "Be considerate of other outside waiting for a table," "$7 corkage fee to BYOB,"........ I liked this place alot overall and my family liked it even better. 8/09. |

June 28, 2009 - Really likes it - BYOB!! and be prepared to be smothered in the smells and tastes of a small spanish village. wonderful aromatic flavors waft from the kitchen and entice you to try it all... the fish dishes and the seafood paella are worth the trip (also great specialty deserts) - no parking but on the street and cash only but so worth it... |
