"I don't get the appeal"
by Bill Cutting

November 28, 2009 - Doesn't like it - Food is bad. Service is so so. Layout is bad. No ambience at all. I'd rather stand in line at Pazzo's or Mad Mushroom for better food. I know its been around for years, but that doesn't make it right. |

"This is it for pizza in KY!"
by B Friedman

November 07, 2009 - Joe B's has been around a long time. They used to have a couple of other locations, and even delivered in the distant past. The pizzas are great, the breadsticks are an institution. Get the deep dish pizza. I think this place invented it. Be prepared for a wait on weekends. Never disappoints... |

"I miss this place"

September 21, 2009 - Likes it - I had a chance on my last visit to Lexington to see my sister to revisit a place I loved so much, Joe Balogna's !! This itailian restaurant that is set in a former church santury has ambiance for days. The service was friendly just like I remembered and the food was still simple and fresh and very satisfying. I highly recommend the antipasto Salad, and of course the Lasagna!! My visit left me hungering for more of this place. If only they could open a Louisville location. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Long-time Lex Institution"

September 07, 2009 - Likes it - And you must visit. The restaurant is in an old church, turned synagogue, turned restaurant. I love the atmosphere and energy that seems to make all those who eat there happy. The food is ok, nothing to write home about, but sometimes the place makes up for it.You must get a breadstick which is freshly made and served with a (grainy) garlic butter. They are always hot and taste right out of the oven, probably since most visitors get one! The pizza is delicious and always turns out well. I especially like the barbeque chicken pizza. Try their chili in the winter and the gazpacho in the summer! However, don't try to plated dinners such as manicotti, etc. I think Joe B's puts their heart into the pizza and leaves the plated dinners to the side. Most of these dinners are boring, run of the mill pasta rolled up with some ricotta cheese. The sauce's flavors are not developed. Most of the dinner plates are covered in cheese which is unnecessary if the food underneath is good.Go to Joe B's, enjoy the atmosphere (unless you are a UK athlete). |

"A Lexington Classic"
by Chris Fry

August 09, 2009 - Likes it - Joe B's offers a great location and superb pizza. The location is great as it's set in a renovated church. The variety of pizza options ensure that everyone will be able to find something that they like. There are deep dish, thin crust and even an option for a personally sized specialty. Personally I recommend the sfingione although the pepperoni is a great "old standby".Most frequent visitors to Joe Bologna's understand that you have to order one of their superb (and gigantic) bread sticks with either the garlic butter sauce or marinara. Obviously the more healthy option is the marinara although that's all relative considering the size of the bread stick. Personally I recommend a splurge and getting it with the garlic butter sauce. You'll need a fork to polish off the last few buttery bites. |

"Breadsticks to die for"

July 03, 2009 - Likes it - It's been over 20 years since I had my first Joe Bologna's breadstick and I still remember it like it was last week. I hope this tells you something about how good this particular breadstick has always been. This is another one of those Lexington traditions that you have to try at least once before you die. 1 person likes this review Recommend |

"Classic!"

January 20, 2009 - Likes it - I have never had a bad dish here! OK, everyone raves about the garlic bread sticks, but frankly they just don;t have enough flavor for me. I really "like-a da garlic" and these breadsticks are just too bland. But the food here is classic and the setting is beautiful - I would go here just to enjoy the stained glass. The service is always pretty good, even when they are crowded. |

January 01, 2009 - Likes it - Joe B's has been around for a long time. Their pizza is good and the bread sticks are the best in town.I like the old church building and the upstairs level for parties.Service has been pretty slow in the last half of 2008. Had to drop Joe B's off my lunch list as it has been taking too long. |
