My personal favorite in Seattle is Shanghai Garden. And I love the Dim Sum brunch at Monsoon.

From my perspective, I haven't had much luck finding adequate, let along GREAT chinese food. See my post on the subject:www.urbanspoon.com/blog/3/The-votes...However, Geraldine begged to differ and gave a shout out for Hing Loon Restaurant in the ID:www.urbanspoon.com/blog/7/In-defense...

We used to go to Top Gun when it was in the International District, but it closed awhile back. They still have a location on the Eastside though, should you wan to travel. The dim sum at Purple Dot seems to be about the best, they serve it all day and it's cheap, they way you like it. Good Chinese in Seattle is hard to find for some reason. Chiangs on Roosevelt though is tasty and people seem to like it. Good luck!

I would concur with Geraldine, Hing Loon in the ID is a great place. However it also depends on what you are looking to order.

Personally I feel the hand shaven noodles (especially the barleygreen variety) at Shanghai Garden are not to be missed.www.urbanspoon.com/r/1/3913/Seattle...

Hands down one of the top three Chinese places in the city HAS to be Sichaun Cuisine at the corner of 12th and Jackson. Completely non-descript, unfriendly parking and inserted at the end of a strip mall this is a hidden gem packed with local ID'ers and Chinese kids. The two women that run this place are not overly friendly at first yet they really open up when you start talking to them or ask for reco's. Get there and keep it a secret. Lunch and dinner.....very affordable.

I think that the Snappy Dragon is always a safe bet. Huge portions with high quality. Try the sweet and sour chicken!

I've never been a huge fan of chinese, probably because seattle lacks in good chinese food, but the one place I love to go to is chef at wok on Greenwood and 125th. The chow mein with homemade noodles always hits the spot. Good Luck!

El Jefe: what do you order at Sichaun Cuisine? I want to try it but am bored with my usual test dish: ma pao tofu. Hook me up!

it's a myth Seattle does not have good Chinese food,, there is great Chinese food.Seven Stars Pepper (12th & Jackson, NE corner, on the second floor of the building) has wonderful Szechuan food (hand shaven den-den noodles highly recommended), they also have a generous hot pot you can enjoy with the traditional Szechuan broth.Fu Lin (across the street from Old Uwajimaya, across the alley from A Piece of Cake) looks like a Japanese restaurant (great ramen) though actually owned by a Taiwanese family and has fantastic Chinese food. Pork Chop Rice, green onion pancakes are amazing. . you get a side of potstickers for $2.95 on the side when you order noodles.Szechuan Noodle Bowl (across the street from House of Hong, next door to Greenleaf) has hearty soup noodles, dumplings of all shapes and sizes and sauces.

The head chef that made Seven Stars Pepper great left recently and started up a new restaurant in Bellevue called Szechuan Chef. I've only been once but it was fantastic, some of the better sichuan food I've had outside china.

Best Dim Sum - Jade Garden, hands down. Yes, Canada is the renown place for Chinese food, but Jade Garden in the International District has some of the freshest dim sum around. Shrimp is huge, dan tat/hom bows are amazing. The service, however, isn't that great, but if you're looking for a GOOD Chinese restaurant for GREAT food, go to Jade Garden.

I'm a very big fan of Jak's Tapas Mainly Chinese in the U district. I know it's not the ID but it's family run and the specials board goes on for days. I can take my veggie friends with no fear. Not a inkling of sweet and sour anything!Scallion bread, chinese chives with pork and tofu..... please tell me someone else loves this place!

Personally, I'm fond of the minimalist experience of Szechuan Noodle Bowl. It's all very simple food, but very nicely done.

I was recently living near U-Village and went to China Village ( www.urbanspoon.com/r/1/2663/Seattle... ).Given its pedestrian location far from the ID, I was prepared to be disappointed and was pleasantly surprised. I have traveled to China (HK, Shenzhen, Suzhou, Beijing, Shanghai) and have eaten in nice places and not so nice places. I found China Village to be fairly authentic -- if you order properly. |
