Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream "Great ice cream. Great service." June 11, 2008 - First off--this is the best ice cream made and sold in Seattle. I'm a former West Seattle resident, and still appreciate the Husky Deli's decent homemade ice cream. However, nothing in Seattle holds a candle to Molly Moon's. I agree that a couple of the flavors could be slightly tweaked (the salted caramel might do well to have bigger pieces of sea salt instead of the salt blended in to the caramel), but overall the quality and variety of unique flavors is fantastic. I'd like to comment about the negative reviews regarding service. The times that I have been to Molly Moon's the service has been friendly, helpful, and very willing to let me try whatever flavors I liked. The second time I went, the server remembered what I ordered the first time--and over a week had elapsed. Perhaps when things get very busy, they can be a bit stretched--but that's not uncommon with new ventures. |

Txori Bar "Beautiful job, Carolin!" May 20, 2008 - Txori is the brainchild of Carolin Messier de Jiménez, co-owner, Business Manager, pastry chef, and whatever else of Harvest Vine. While taking a class there a couple of years ago, she shared her vision for Txori (urban locale, small plates, very San Sebastian-style). As a big fan of Harvest Vine, I eagerly awaited the opening of her new venture. I'm happy to say it's exceeded my expectations each time I've visited. The space is both modern and yet very authentic-feeling; the food is exceptional; the drinks are unique and also authentic. |

Buddha Ruksa "Raises the game in Thai food" May 20, 2008 - Buddha Ruksa is housed in an unassuming-looking storefront in a slightly odd West Seattle location. Don't let any of this deter you. This is the best Thai food in West Seattle, hands down, and one of the best 2-3 Thai restaurants in Seattle. The interior ambience is very nicely done, the menu is unique and a bit more adventurous than many Thai restaurants, but the real proof is in the eating. The food is consistently excellent--and has been for a number of years. As mentioned by another reviewer, the crispy garlic basil chicken is excellent--as are dishes like the prawns with pumpkin. I recently turned a foodie co-worker on to Buddha Ruksa, and she confessed that she's now addicted with weekly visits (at a minimum). Worth the drive to West Seattle if you don't live there; if you do, GO! |

Salvadorean Bakery "Worth a field trip to White Center" May 20, 2008 - When I lived in West Seattle, a friend who lived in Arbor Heights (SW Seattle, near Burien) introduced me to the Salvadorean Bakery. Not only are their cakes and pastries excellent (and unique), but their lunch menu is fantastic. The pupusas are excellent, the soups are amazing, and I'd make the drive from downtown just for the rice and beans. Worth the drive? Absolutely. |

Monsoon "I'm afraid to give a good review..." May 20, 2008 - ...as I still want to be able to get a table for brunch. As someone who doesn't like most typical American breakfast dishes, Monsoon is my ideal brunch location. The dim sum offerings are always excellent; the traditional Vietnamese dishes are consistently exceptional; and the colonial French fare--the crepes in particular--are nearly enough to make me want to break my typical "no sweet stuff at breakfast" rule (they are works of art on a plate). Please, don't go. I want that last table. |

La Isla "Interesting and authentic" May 20, 2008 - I've been to La Isla for both lunch and dinner. It's small inside, but not overly noisy. The outdoor patio is a nice to have in Ballard, but as it is right at the intersection of Market and 24th it can be very loud during the day. Service was very good both times I visited; the servers seem to know the cuisine they are serving--a big bonus in my book. Much of the food is either deep fried or slow-cooked meat (often in combination)--whether it be the empanadas or plantains. It's good, but can be a bit heavy. It's also a good idea to really like garlic, as the sauces are garlic intensive. On my second visit (for lunch), I went with a co-worker who is part Puerto Rican and who grew up surrounded by great Puerto Rican food. I've never been exposed to it prior to visiting La Isla, so I was interested to hear her review. She said the food was average in comparison to that which she would have gotten in a good Puerto Rican restaurant in the Bronx, but overall she thought it was decent and is happy to have it in Seattle. |

94 Stewart "Very good" May 20, 2008 - I was looking for a place to have a special birthday dinner. 94 Stewart did not disappoint. The atmosphere was unique--has a "romantic hideaway" feel to it without being too kitschy. Service was excellent--professional, unobtrusive but helpful, not whatsoever snobby. My entree (halibut with pea shoots, potatoes, and serrano ham crisps) was simple but prepared very well. Very nice overall. |

Bleu Bistro "I hate it." April 20, 2008 - I have never understood the appeal of this place. The food is both weird and poorly executed. 4 people like this review - Recommend |

Michou "Lunch fave" April 20, 2008 - I love this place for lunch, and will gladly fight my way through the tourist hoardes at the Market to get there. The sandwiches are truly excellent, and huge--half will normally fill me up. I often will buy a few things to take home for dinner, too. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Maggie Bluffs "Great--for what it is" April 19, 2008 - Let's say it's a sunny Sunday in spring or summer, and you want to find a place to sit outside, enjoy the weather with some friends, and get something to eat...few places are better than Maggie Bluffs. Especially when Mount Rainier is out. The food is usually workmanlike at best, but what a great setting. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Cafe Besalu "Amazing pastry." April 19, 2008 - Some of the best pastry I've had outside Paris. Just amazing. Between this and Bakery Nouveau in West Seattle, my former lament about not being able to get really excellent pastry and bread in Seattle is over! |

New Kowloon Seafood Restaurant "Serviceable" April 19, 2008 - The dim sum was okay, but some items came to the table a bit cold. |

Harvest Vine "Excellent" April 19, 2008 - One of the most unique dining experiences in Seattle. The chef, his wife, and their staff have done an extraordinary job of creating a place where you can not just eat, but experience, food. Few places give you the opportunity to be so intimate with the food preparation process as sitting at Harvest Vine's hammered copper bar; I love having the opportunity to order something new, then watch the chefs prepare it. Even with all of the new high-end 'concept' restaurants that have come along since Harvest Vine opened some years ago, this is still the place I take people when they want the most unique and special dining experience in Seattle. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |
