Tilth "good but a few complaints" June 09, 2008 - I NEVER get cold - ever. I also NEVER leave a restaurant hungry (I always order too much). But despite an overall good meal (love the duck burgers) I found myself shivering by an icy window and dipping my finger in the salt cellar to keep from starving between courses at Tilth. I'd love to see a little more polish on the ambitious menu and a little more than an eyedropper's worth of sauce on my teaspoon sized small plate next time. |

Ocho "Great addition to Ballard's many new eateries" June 09, 2008 - Great spot, intimate, fun environment with comfortable service and fantastic options for tasting through the chalkboard menu. Not quite as amazing or authentic as Txori, but good and I look forward to returning. |

Txori Bar "try the squid!" February 07, 2008 - I've rarely tasted anything as delicious as the stuffed squid w/squid ink reduction on toast - I would stop in just for that any time! All of the small bites are fantastic. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Red Mill Burgers (Phinney Ridge) "never understood the lines..." January 09, 2008 - Yes, the burgers are good (not the best in town) but when do you want a big juicy cheeseburger? When you are hungover, tired, feeling self-indulgent, extremely hungry and likely impatient! Why do so many people wait that long for a cheeseburger that's not THAT great???it should be plenty of time to re-assess your diet.I marvel every time I pass by and see the crazy lines... |

Torchy's Restaurant and Wine Bar "surprisingly good" November 19, 2007 - when I was a kid the food at the WAC was not something about which you'd speak favorably (unless you were comparing it to the food at the Space Needle) but on a recent dinner visit I noticed that all three of us were treated to spectacular food - perfectly prepared fish, great details, and surprisingly unbland spices! If you can get over the fact that everyone else in the room is celebrating an octogenarian-level birthday or much higher (which causes the service staff to shout) then its definitely worth it! |

Licorous "they know me..." August 08, 2007 - I'm such a sucker for the food pairing up-sell to each cocktail (I also feel obligated after it takes several minutes to describe.) If you're already ordering a spendy cocktail, you might as well spend a few more dollars on the delightful little food pairing too, right?... 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Cupcake Royale (and Cafe Verite) "Why cupcakes??" January 27, 2007 - I don't want to be a bad sport but I just don't get it. Its a cupcake! Just ask your 7 year-old to make you a batch. Its sugar and food coloring and cake mix. Why the phenomenon?! Its taking up good real estate on Market st. that could be used for something cool or worthwhile. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

FareStart "Beautiful new restaurant, same great mission" January 27, 2007 - The FareStart restaurant and training program have moved to a new location at 7th & Virginia (next to the Federal Courthouse and the new Whole Foods). Its now a much nicer environment to eat great food and support people who are working to change their lives! www.farestart.org |

Tarasco Mexican Restaurant "Tortilla soup is quite good" December 24, 2006 - Get over the dive factor and try the Tortilla soup. |
|
Jolly Roger Tap Room "best beer and pub food in the world." December 24, 2006 - Yes, really. I crave the oyster Po boys regularly. |
|
Cafe Bambino "best coffee in Seattle" December 24, 2006 - they use Italian beans and their espresso is better than anywhere in Seattle. Not a good place for claustrophobics - its very very small. |
|
Buenos Aires Grill "unbelievably good bread" December 24, 2006 - You need to try the bread (with your steak of course). |
|
Whisky Bar "Not drunk enough" December 24, 2006 - I'm quite certain that everyone in this establishment is on cheap street drugs - the kind that you don't want to try. While this wouldn't normally put me off, I once saw a person throw up at this bar and continue drinking, yikes. I also don't believe they got the memo about the smoking ban.....? |
|
Volterra "Always happy at Volterra." December 24, 2006 - Volterra just makes you feel good. Its warm and not overpriced. I have tried several of the same items repeatedly and keep raving about them to everyone (like the wild mushroom/polenta/fontina appetizer). The house red wine is wonderful too. Don and Michelle work hard and it shows. |

Barolo Ristorante (Metropolitan Tower) "prepare to rub elbows with the fancy folks..." December 24, 2006 - Happy hour is great, but come early to the extra packed little bar (which is always very dimly candlelit - perfect after a day in the fluorescent lights of the office). An elegant setting to enjoy great Italian favorites. Seattle sports figures and Mazerati drivers are often coming and going. Avoid Friday evening when the wannabe Euro fur-wearing leather and bad cologne crowd appears.... |

Qube Restaurant "very modern and "Asian-ish"" December 24, 2006 - A delicious lychee sorbet martini helped me get over the impression that they might have been trying just a bit too hard to be a trendy N.Y.-style hot spot. Hopefully they can survive the mixed neighborhood transition and impress folks with their varied menu. I look forward to a second visit. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |
