Bavarian Meat Delicatessen "Smoked Roast Beef" January 23, 2008 - I've never ordered a sandwich there, but take home meats in bulk.Buy 1/4 lb. smoked roast beef sliced thin. Take home, put on rye bread, add mustard and enjoy. The brats, the dogs, other sausages and deli meats are delicious, too. |

Specialty's Cafe & Bakery "It all looks better than it tastes . . ." January 22, 2008 - Continually disappointed. Everything looks wonderful, but the first bite almost inevitably is a let down.Of the bakery goods, only the cookies actually taste as good as they appear to be. Most other items are just too dry, too heavy and/or too sickeningly sweet. A holiday special pumpkin cinnamon roll was horrible; it had an overly sweet slightly medicinal taste (ordered it at two different locations and it was equally terrible - tossed after the first bite).Veggie sandwiches from several locations have had limp, less than fresh filling although the sandwiches looked fabulous.Specialty's needs to follow-up on the eye appeal with some taste appeal. I'm tired of being disappointed and have taken a hiatus from its food. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Roxy's Diner "Defunct" January 04, 2008 - It's gone.Roxy's Diner is in Fremont. Don't call the phone number above because you'll just pester someone working in a downtown office who's getting the calls. |

Family Doughnut Shop "Donut Heaven" January 03, 2008 - Need I say more.Don't let the size and location of this small shop in a Seven-Eleven mini-strip mall just west of I-5 put you off.The donuts are divine. Old fashioned buttermilk donuts are made the way they should be. 3 people like this review - Recommend |

Sazerac "A New Favorite" January 02, 2008 - This was my first visit. I went for lunch just before Christmas. It was packed with office parties and shoppers, and I was just a single lunch. Nevertheless, I was seated almost immediately and my order was promptly taken . Throughout lunch, I received the kind of service one gets if a tip in the high double digits is expected. It was really first class.I had the catfish, which was perfectly breaded and fried, spiced with just a hint of heat to remind you this is New Orleans style food. It was moist and tender and was served on a bed of lemon mashed potatoes. What a tasty and welcome change from the usually not very good garlic mashed potatoes served by so many restaurants.I will definitely be returning. 2 people like this review - Recommend |

Ipanema Brazilian Grill "Current Dinner Price" December 20, 2007 - On a Saturday in Dec. 2007 it was a fixed $37.50 per person and there were no available dinner choices other than the merry-go-round of skewed meats. 2 people like this review - Recommend |

Ipanema Brazilian Grill "Disappointing in every way" December 20, 2007 - Here's the list . . .won't ever be going back or recommending it.1. Though we had a reservation, we were told when we were seated we had to leave by a certain time because the table was needed. We were actually leaving earlier, but apparently moving too slowly for the hostess who came over to hurry us along. 2. The hot and cold self-serve bars looked ample, but dishes were duplicated on them so the selection was much smaller than it appeared.3. Uneven food quality. Some of the meats were good; others were just average or awful. The cheese steak was grisly, fatty and larded with some unidentified gummy cheese. We all agreed it was inedible.4. The air was just slightly smoky and greasy, which I guess can't be helped when there's open grilling.6. High ambient noise level. If you're looking for a pleasant dining experience, pass this one by. If you want is a real lotta food and don't care about anything else, this place is for you. 3 people like this review - Recommend |

Pickle Barrel Sandwich Shop "Mom & Pop Sandwich Shop" August 07, 2007 - Breakfast and Lunch.Scrupleously clean, fast service, moderately-priced deli serving breakfast pastries and sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and paninis, daily lunch and soup specials, as well as lattes and mochas.Every veggie sandwich I've ordered has had really crisp, very fresh veggies, something I can't say for more high-profile, more expensive delis (ahem, Specialty's).The sandwich breads are the packaged supermarket kind, but the special sandwich combos and fillings are very good. |

Kabul "Haute Afghan" July 17, 2007 - I lived in a city that had several very good small Aghan diners with the whole family in the kitchen cooking. For me the food at Kabul, though good, is too upscaled for American food snobs to be really authentic.Nevertheless, I would highly recommend it for a special dinner or an intro to Afghan cuisine. |

Cafe Pho "Faux pho . . ." July 16, 2007 - Disappointing. Most neighborhood pho shops are way, way better than this. Not good, not cheap; but fast and hot. |
