O'Asian Kitchen
"oh my...."
July 07, 2008 - i agree with urbanspooner jane doe eats, o'asian is a lovely decorated place, but both the service and selection is somewhat lack luster. i used to love this place, but my dim sum palete has either changed or been refined. the servers are usually very pushy, but it's usually the same at most dim sum places. the selection has decreased. the size of each dumpling is larger than most places, but if it just tastes like a ball of blah, do you really need such a big bite?
i have recommended o'asian to other people in the past and now i regret it. sorry if you were one of them...

Outback Steakhouse (Kirkland)
"warning: stop after the starters"
June 28, 2008 - our first time to this outback will most likely be our last. the starters were good, we had the bloomin' onion and wings. i order the normal outback burger (well done) and my brother had their summer special, bbq mixed grill (chicken, ribs, shrimp, corn on the cob and green beans). my burger came out 20 minutes later very pink on the inside and his dish was missing the green beans. waiter promptly stated that the beans were finishing up. another 20 minutes later and 2nd time waiter stopped at our table, still no green beans. after the 3rd time, i asked where the beans were, maybe they had to grow them or something... waiter looked confused, showed him the picture of the entree and then he offered to substitute cheap ice cream in their place. that's all i have to say about this place, now i have to finish cooking my burger...

Palomino
"too early to say..."
June 17, 2008 - the menu is great and diverse. the decor is fun and flirty, but the food needs work. i think the staff needs a few weeks to work out the kinks. i ordered the pistachio crusted salmon and it had more salt than my lincoln cinemas popcorn. bread service is suppose to come with each table, so make sure you ask if the new person doesn't bring it out. i will try it again, but maybe in a couple of months.

A Burger Place
"burger surprise"
May 19, 2008 - i have passed by this little burger place countless times on my way to my favorite thai or vietnamese until last friday when one of my coworkers suggested it. she's been several times and said it was quick and clean. indeed it was and pretty good, too. i like how straight forward everything was, they only serve burgers, fries and drinks. simple and easy. the prices are reasonable and the refills are free. what more can you ask for from A Burger Place?

Taste of India
"a little taste of india in seattle"
April 28, 2008 - my husband and i are huge fans of cedars on brooklyn, but sometimes the crowd and long wait takes a toll. we recently discovered taste of india, also in the u district, which has almost the same menu, same prices, just as tasty, but larger dining room and almost no wait. it's so nice to have 2 great indian restaurants in virtually the same area.

Tamarind Tree
"pretty good"
April 14, 2008 - for vietnamese food, this place was pretty good for not being my mom's kitchen. very few chic vietnamese resturants offer banh cuon (steamed crepes) and these were pretty close to what you can make at home. i saw a few customers order banh xeo (sizzling crepes) which were served with heaps of fresh granishes, which is the proper way to eat them. the service lacks something fundamental (like remembering what the customers ordered), but other than that, the food and atmosphere were both very good. i would defintely bring my parents here.

Cheesecake Factory (Bellevue Square)
"gift cards are bad"
April 09, 2008 - just a warning to those who are thinking about purchasing a gift card at the cheesecake factory: it's much more of a hassel on your gift receipents then you might think. my husband and i received a $50.00 gift card for christmas, went to the bellevue location and tried to use the card. it was not activated. it took a plane trip for my brother from L.A. (he was planning on visiting anyways), an hour wait at the restaurant, and an additonal 2 days (research on manager's part) for us to actually use our gift card.
when they issued the "new card" to replace the one that did not work, they made us feel like petty thieves who had nothing better to do than steal gift cards from the cheesecake factory. then we tried to use the "new card" and apparently, the manager who helped us (for the last 3 days) failed to activate the card.
it's a vicious circle and i plan to use them for every last cent on that card.

Lombardi's
"55 min for food = bad time"
February 15, 2008 - lombardi's is a cozy little place at first glance. the multilevel restaurant is situated on market street in ballard amongst tall trees and unique boutiques.
we were seated promptly, our orders were taken promptly and drinks were even served quickly, but those were the only things (besides quickly bringing us the check) did lombardi's do right. our garlic shrimp appetizer wasn't served until 20 minutes after we ordered it, the salad and bread trickled in 15 minutes after that, and the entrees (pasta) 20 minutes later. at first i thought maybe it was just because it was valentine's day, but when the couple seated 20 minutes after you, get their entrees 10 minutes before you - you know it wasn't because it was just valentine's day...
overall the food was average, the ambience was average; not somewhere you want to go for a special time. didn't even want to have dessert because we had been there for almost 2 hours after everything was done and said. :(

December 02, 2007 - this is a prefect example of small and locally owned. the handmade chocolates are beautifully displayed and the best part - the owner will give you a sample if it's your first visit.

Jak's Grill
"great food, lousy staff"
December 02, 2007 - we've been to the jak's in the u district and in issaquah. both times the food was incredible. the prices are very reasonable for being a steak place. the staff and service are both very lacking. both restaurants are small and seating is limited so the wait time can be trying, but i would imagine once you get seated they would want to "promptly" serve beverages and take your order, especially after you've just waited an hour and 15 minutes - not so at both locations. it takes about 10 minutes to take your drink order and another 10 - 15 minutes to serve your drinks and take your food order. maybe this accounts for the long wait time... since the food is very tasty, maybe the location in west seattle will make up for the other 2.

"best southern food north of the mason dixon line"
November 06, 2007 - from starters to dessert, everything was delicious. i would recommend the jerk chicken , fried chicken with mashed potatoes and greens, the rib eye steak and don't forget dessert! even though the red velvet cake is priced at $9.00 a slice, it's worth every penny. we arrived at 5:25pm and by 5:30pm, there was already a line of about 4 parties.

Yunnie Bubble Tea
"yunnie = yummy"
October 26, 2007 - out of all the bubble tea shops on the ave - i enjoy yunnie's the most. they have just one size for one price. some other bubble tea shops have multiple sizes with different prices, but the owners will usually always sell you the larger size - so it doesn't really matter that there's more than one option.
at yunnie's, they offer fresh fruit options. they have more than just tapioca pearls. the best part: they don't force the word of god with each plastic cup of tea.

5 Spot
"hit and miss"
October 21, 2007 - the rotating menu at times is inventive and delicious, but other times...not so much. the last time we went, they featured hawaiian cuisine. i had the slow roasted pork with slaw and rice. the pork was extremely spicy, even for asian taste buds. i thought: "maybe hawaiian food is this hot." but when i went to kona kicthen a few months later, i finally discovered what i had been missing. the pork is suppose to have a slow, complex flavor. not qiuck and spicy.
i have discovered that their main menu is much better than the rotating menu. the chicken is good and most of the breakfast items are delicious.
the wait staff can sometimes be pretentious. it's first come first serve for some of the barstool seats, but not all of them. it's hard for newcomers to know which ones they cane sit at w/o having to be on the wait list.

Melting Pot
"quite horrible service"
October 21, 2007 - the first time i went to the melting pot was in colorado springs. the experience was wonderful and delicious, or maybe it was great only because my friend and i ended up spending about $125 for dinner and drinks?
since the first time was so delightful, i decided to entertain some out of town guests at the melting pot down in lower queen anne. we had alredy had dinner and decided to go for a late dessert. the place was pretty much empty by 10pm. we informed the host we were only there for drinks and dessert, which he assurred us was prefectly fine. we sat, waiter arrived and took our order. he didn't even bother asking us if we wanted anything to drink or water with our order. we thought he was just in a hurry and would ask him for drinks when he came back with the dessert fondue. he arrived about 20 minutes later with the fondue, set on our table, dumped the liquor in and left. if you have ever ordered any food item with liquor, you know the alcohol needs to be burned off. not only was this not done, even though that was what was specfied in the menu; but he didn't even ask us if we needed anything else.
we spoke to management and the fondue was redone. this was the only saving grace for this establishment. i would not recommend this restaurant, escpecially if you were thinking about entertaining guests.

"awesome!"
August 09, 2007 - this place has the BEST dim sum. my husband and i have tried many dim sum restuarants, even those in san francisco and vancouver b.c., but this is by far the best we've had in the states. the wait gets really long (more than 1 hour) if you go on the weekends after 11:45am. but they also have more dim sum variety between 11:30am - 1pm. it's a give and take situation. their chinese food take out is also very good.
