Trellis
"Delicious"
March 25, 2008 - The Pacific Seafood soup is such a treat served in a cast iron pot brought directly to the table simmer with broth and loaded with a mountain of muscles, clams, salmon, and prawns.  Make sure you save room for the rosemary ice cream though - it is amazing!

Vertigo Lounge and Grill
"AMAZING!"
January 03, 2008 - The lamb tenderloin is probably hands-down the best lamb I have ever tasted - and that's a pretty bold claim.  If you think otherwise, then perhaps I should reevaluate my gastronic preferences.  It was so tender and complimented with their port jus.  The sweetness was surprising but that's what made the lamb so delicious.
We also had a loberster raviolli, which much to my delight, was made with chunks (not puree) of lobster.  The white truffle cream added just a hint of flavoring but did not detract from the lobster.
As for dessert, our waitress wasn't sure what it was, but it was tasty!  Chocolate ice cream, chocolate truffles, candied pecans, and an airy  cross between flan and chocolate pudding boarded beautifully on a cutting board...
The lounge is attached to the restaurant, so you'll hear thumping techno music accompaning your fine dining experience.  I personally like that type of music though.  :)

Veil
"so-so"
December 04, 2007 - I like trying new places and Veil caught my eye with it's modern ambience and inventive menu.  We started with a cream of cauliflower soup poured over braised oxtails sprinkled with apples - pretty good, but the apples added a rather confusing flavor to the mix although the texture was interesting.  The oxtail itself was quite delicious.  Next we followed with a peanut butter and jelly fois gras - really, that's what they called it.  In the end, the "peanut butter" was a thai peanut sauce and the "jam" was a blood orange jelly.  I wish they hadn't seared the outside of the fois gras so much to create a crunchy burned crust.  Again, interesting flavors, but I could have done without the peanut sauce.
Main entrees - pan fried trout with cider puree and bacon was excellent.  I do have to warn that the cider puree tastes more like ginger plum sauce with less tang and a hint of apple.  The crispy striped bass with vegetable jus was more of a miss.  The vegetable jus had way to much vingear and it came with spaghetti squash rolled in cabbage???  This was a rather confused dish that didn't seem to know what it wanted to taste like, drowning out the fish with the sour sauce.
I had high expectations for a concept restaurant catering to foodies, but unfortunately, this one wasn't as inventive as I had hoped and missed the mark on a couple of the dishes.

Peso's Kitchen and Lounge
"great happy hour"
October 19, 2007 - I never though I'd get into this restuarant with the lines going out the door all the time, but I was lucky enough to stop by on a Sunday afternoon at 4 just in time for the start of happy hour.  Although I made some horrendous choices in my food selection, I'd definitely try it again.  I ordered a BLT (to my dismay, the T doesn't stand for Turkey) and a chicken tortilla soup (which was waaay to spicey for me, but my accomplices enjoyed it quite a bit), and a passion fruit chimichanga (they didn't have any more - substituted with a delightful, but cold mango cobbler). The burger was from fresh ground meat and the chicken BLT (not to be confused with the BLT I ordered) was quite good.

"Fun and tasty hotspot"
May 20, 2008 - Great tamales and island paradise tea!  The portions are pretty large, so share with a buddy.  We also ordered a Caribbean paella (salmon, pineapple, mango, coconut and chicken) that was pretty good, though lacking in coconut flavor - a lot wetter than a traditional Spanish paella.  We also heard a lot of raves for the jerk chicken.  Indeed, it does have an excellent jerk sauce, but be warned, it is quite spicy.  The sweet potato mash on the side with the cheesy rice is a great compliment to the entree and quite tasty!  The service was also excellent.
