Sitka & Spruce
"No longer open for lunch"
August 14, 2007 - After finally making it to Sitka and Spruce for lunch a few weeks ago, I just discovered that they are no longer open for lunch. They were my new top choice for lunch near my office in Eastlake. Oh well...

Voilà
"Favorite dish"
October 26, 2006 - Dinners are good, but the featured attraction is the Profiteroles au Chocolat. I love chocolate deserts, and this is one of the best in town.

El Gallito
"Family friendly and delicious"
October 26, 2006 - Excellent enchiladas, carne asada and margaritas! Generous portions and free flowing chips and salsa

Monsoon
"Best brunch (and a pretty good dinner) menu"
October 25, 2006 - Monsoon's brunch is broken down into 3 categories: vietnamese, dim sum, and continental. Something for everyone and they're all delicious. The dinner menu is also great, though it would be even better if they had a full bar.

Tat's Delicatessen
"Hearty sandwiches"
October 25, 2006 - I came for the cheese steak, but stayed for the Tat'strami. Tat's is pure artery clogging joy. Bonus if you can figure out why the 12" costs more than 50% more than the 8"

Cafe Lago
"Fresh pasta"
October 25, 2006 - I have trouble exploring the full menu with the draw of the lasagna. The pasta is so fresh it melts in your mouth.

Chez Shea
"Best place for a romantic dinner"
October 25, 2006 - Great atmosphere and service, quietly perched above Pike Place Market. Best soup in town! The bar is a fine place to stop for a drink and snacks while killing some time down town. And the main dining room has become the traditional location for me and my wife to spend anniversaries and birthdays.

Nishino
"Best sushi in Seattle"
October 25, 2006 - I wouldn't have guessed how good Nishino is given it's tucked away in a strip mall by the arboretum, but of all the sushi places I've tried in Seattle, Nishino is the best. If you've got a little time and it's a special occation, try their omikasa dinner.

Wild Ginger
"Tunnel Vision"
October 25, 2006 - I'm sure the entire menu at Wild Ginger is great, but the last 20 times I've been, I think the only items I've ordered are
fragrant duck
hanoi tuna
seven flavor beef
and of course the chocolate torte

Rover's
"So many great flavors"
October 25, 2006 - After eating at Rover's I had trouble listing all the dishes I liked. 8 courses, some with many flavors, was a great food exploration.
Service was great. The visit from the hatted chef was interesting, but maybe a little awkward.
The atmosphere was nice, though a little too brightly lit for a romatic dinner.

Las Vegas reviews

Joël Robuchon (MGM Grand)
"Excellent, but..."
March 28, 2008 - I'd heard great things about Robuchon, all the way up to "Best meal I've ever had." And when I hear that from someone I respect, I have to give it a try, even when they require you to commit with a credit card to a 6 or 16 course meal when making the reservation (priced at $250 and $385 respectively).
When we first arrived, we started with a cocktail in the lounge, and I have to say that they make a great Martini (I even ran out afterwards and bought the Right Gin that they used). Then we were seated and started our 6 courses (plus the giant bread cart, desert cart and bonus desert course). The courses ranged from weird to delicious, my favorite being a creamy soup with duck confit and truffle oil. The service was in general great, though we felt like they were vulturing over us when they gave us the check (maybe we were the last table and they wanted to go home).
The wine list was a bit of a novelty, with the average bottles in the $500+ range. There were a couple of bottles that I'd seen at other very nice restaurants for half the price they were charging at Robuchon.
Overall I really liked it, but it suffered from high expectations and slightly poor delivery on the price-performance scale.

Chez Panisse
"Worthy of the legend"
March 06, 2007 - I love Chez, though the cost restricts it to special occasions (for me at least). My favorite memory there is when I ordered the "White peach" for dessert (for $8), and was served a single whole peach on a plate with just a knife. While kind of ridiculous, the peach was really quite good.

Picante
"Home sick"
March 06, 2007 - I grew up in Berkeley but moved to Seattle 12 years ago. In my many trips home since, I always stop by picante for a super grilled chicken burrito. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Their margaritas are pretty tasty too.

Cafe Intermezzo
"You better be hungry"
March 06, 2007 - Not only are the sandwiches made with fresh hand sliced bread, with a delicious variety of ingredients, but everything comes in huge portions! I recommend the sandwich/salad combo, which for most people is enough for 2 meals.

O'Donnell's Sea Grill
"Name sake"
May 22, 2007 - Maybe it's just because I'm an O'Donnell, but I've always had a fondness for this place
