Calcutta Grill "Specacular views accompanied by a superb brunch" January 27, 2008 - Brunch at the Calcutta Grill (the word "Calcutta" is the old name for the city of "Kolkata") is a lengthy stomach-filling affair. We gathered a party--nine in all--and met for brunch at the Calcutta Grill. The menu was varied. The cold section included fruits, cheeses, veggie platter, lox, smoked salmon, scallops, sushi rolls, nigiri, and so on. The hot section had custom pasta and omelettes along with poached salmon, roast beef, french toast, waffles, swedish potatoes, pepper bacon, and much MUCH more. Food fit for a king at about (ballpark) $34/head for adults. I understand that you can eat outside in nicer weather. We'll definitely be heading back for the brunch again, I think. |

Tamarind Tree "Large menu and 5 dishes out of 6 were good" January 25, 2008 - Had dinner there this evening with five other friends. Pomegranate martinis were really good as a starter (thanks Tysan) and the quail and spring roll appetizers went down well as well. Of the six entrees we ordered, five were superb and one bland. Would definitely try this place again. |

Pan Africa Market "Enjoyed Ethiopian lunch" January 12, 2008 - The food here is good (Ethiopian mostly). However, I was disappointed because I was sent here by a Ghanaian gentleman that said that the cook from Afrikando-West African Restaurant (closed in 2005/2006) was preparing occasional dishes at Pan Africa Restaurant. |

Ibiza Dinner Club "Sat in the lounge / Didn't have dinner" January 12, 2008 - A friend of mine and I had some appetizers and drinks in the sheik lounge area. No complaints. Appetizers (cheese platter and one other) were good if a bit pricey. Drinks seemed okay. This place is more of a fashion statement than a place I'd probably go to have dinner. I might be proven wrong and would be willing to try it again for dinner. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Inchin's Bamboo Garden "Tasty Indian Chinese food" January 12, 2008 - A friend and I were recently discussing how much we loved eating Chinese food in Indian. Think Chinese food catered for Indians that we already know enjoy spicier foods. Turns out that there's a place in Redmond, Wa that caters to this. Tried it for lunch a few weeks back and really enjoyed it. Sure, it's not as good as what you can get at a Chinese restaurant in, say, Kolkata. BUT it's a treat. |

Tiger Mountain Grill "Mediocre" January 12, 2008 - I voted "Didn't Like," but to clarify it's mostly average to me. I don't crave it, but don't go out of my way to eat here. The incentive of my Buy 1 Get One Free card is really what motivates me to go on occasion, but there's better food to be had in Issaquah. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Pabla Veggie Cuisine "Spectacular Indian vegetrian dishes" January 12, 2008 - I'm not a vegetarian and definitely love my meat dishes. However, I was looking for some takeout in Issaquah one day and found two restaurants on the same street (the other was Bangalore). Pabla was recommended by two different people that day and I'm glad I tried it. Every dish was excellent (eggplant, paneer, etc.)--the only thing I would not order again was their raita, which did not suit my taste at all (in fact, we through out most of it later). The entrees were all straight As, samosas a B-, and chaat a C+. My chaat and samosa scores are based on on what I typically love at the street food level in India. |

Cactus (Kirkland) "Butternut Squash Enchilada" January 12, 2008 - Our team lunch was at Cactus in Kirkland. I'm not a vegetarian, so surprised even myself by ordering the butternut squash enchilada (it came very highly recommended by our waiter). I had a hankering for the the Dungeness Crab & Chorizo Cakes lunch item but switched at the last minute. The butternut squash enchilada was quite good, but is something I think my wife would prefer. Next time (yes, there's likely one in the future because I'd like to take my wife) I'll try the Navajo Torta (which someone else in my party ordered--huge) or my original dungness crab order. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Chantanee Family Thai Restaurant "Impressed with my first visit" January 12, 2008 - Popped over to Chantanee for lunch with my officemates yesterday. I hadn't heard of the place, but at 11:15am on a Friday there was a line out the door. Good sign (but not for my stomach)! We all stuck to lunch entree dishes: Pad Thai (chicken), Chatanee Noodles (chicken), and one other. All were good and I enjoyed the sampling of the pad thai I had as well. Definitely a place I'm going to try again. |

Shilla Korean BBQ "Korean-style shabu-shabu was eaten with gusto" November 07, 2007 - Stopped by with a friend from Chicago for dinner in late 2005 or early 2006 and ordered the shabu-shabu. We requested it be serviced Korean-style with all the extra condiments that goes so well with this dish. We both ate heartily and left stuffed. Good stuff. We didn't try anything else that I remember. - Samit C |

Maekawa Bar "Good when you order some variety" November 06, 2007 - I enjoy hitting this place relatively late on a weekend evening but at least an hour before they close. Think of the food as Japanese dim sum--my understanding is that's Japanese bar food. The miso mackerel is pretty spectacular if you like that kind of fish. I enjoy going and getting the small appetizer portions and eating through a variety. I'm not quite as happy when I'm ordering a larger meal (sans variety). Then again, the guys I go with are good company so that partially makes up for it. One of my friends is quite fond of the rice balls (not I ), but there--at least you know if you're a rice ball kinda person. Now, if only I could actually remember the actual names of the menu items I'm so poorly describing. - Samit C |

Dixie's BBQ "For the entertainment, but not the BBQ" November 06, 2007 - One of my favourite bbq restaurants is the Smoke Pit on Leavenworth Street in Omaha, Nebraska. I went to Dixie's soon after I moved out to Seattle with some friends from work. Fact of the matter is that I enjoyed the atmosphere somewhat (keeping in mind my friends were there) and found the experience of trying to stomach the overly fiery "Man" hot sauce similarly entertaining. That said, the bbq portion didn't really do it for me. I've never craved Dixie's in the same way I crave The Smoke Pit. If you've not been, it's worth hitting at least once for the experience and the Man sauce, but I'd never suggest a return of my own accord. -Samit C. |

Beecher's Handmade Cheese "Simple yet fine fromage" November 06, 2007 - The cheese is tasty and the mac 'n cheese divine. I don't get down to Pike Place Market as often as I'd like but the spicy mac 'n cheese (as opposed to the "normal" which is perfectly tasty in its own right) goes does very well. I've eaten one of two mac 'n cheese variations there on three or four occasions and have always been very satisfied. Not cholesterol friendly, though. :) - Samit C. |
