Cherry Street Coffee House "nice place to hang out" April 07, 2008 - Grab a seat with a pillow by the window and eat lunch, drink coffee and hang out while listening to the music while no one rushes you away. |

Cafe Yarmarka "off the beaten track" April 07, 2008 - When the other piroshki place has a line out the door, head to this tiny place that has more than just piroshki. The Beet Salad is my fave, with beets, walnuts and heavy duty garlic (it'll cure what ails ya). They also have soups and meat dishes and are served by folks who remind me of family from the old country. |

Fresh Flours "not just another coffeehouse" April 07, 2008 - I will readily admit I am a fan of anything made with azuki beans so on Saturdays when I walk to yoga, I stop in and get their Azuki Bean Brioche. It is a marriage of Japanese bean paste and French pastry that isn't overly sweet or oddly flavored. They also sell green tea pound cake and muffins which are also very good. The trick, though, is to arrive early (or before I get there) because they do sell out. |

Union "not just salmon" March 21, 2008 - The menu is full of interesting delicacies like tongue, cuttlefish, ocean trout and geoduck. It makes you want to sit the waiter down and ask him a few questions. I played it safe with the gnocchi with prawns and was very happy, My table mates had the ocean trout (looks like salmon) and the duck. We were all very happy. |

Matt's in the Market "great space and food" February 15, 2008 - We sat at the bar with a territorial view of the Market, the Olympics and the other diners. The bartender/waiter had great recommendations and good tips (extra napkin for the lambburger). The food (Butternut Squash Soup, Italian Sausage Sandwich) was flavorful, spicy and better than anywhere else you can get those same items. I can't wait to go back for dinner at sunset. 2 people like this review - Recommend |

Purple Cafe and Wine Bar (Seattle) "dinner is better" February 12, 2008 - The parents were in from NYC and there were 6 of us at a table near the window. Right away, we were taken by the weight and depth of the door and continued to be wooed by the spiral of wine (better than books) and the candles floating above us. Our waiter started off on the arrogant, pushy side but soon mellowed out. We selected six small plates to share as starters, ranging from Flank Steak Skewers to Porcini Butter Cake with Mascarpone. We were just getting warmed up. Our entrees included the Marinated Escarole, Duck Confit, Lobster Mac 'n Cheese and Butternut Squash Ravioli. It was all excellent and nicely presented. The portions of the entrees are decent and, because of their flavor, are to be eaten slowly and savored so that we all did manage to get full. The desserts are much like the small plate starters in that they are meant to be ordered in multiples but can be just the right size after a delicious, satisfying meal. 3 people like this review - Recommend |

King Falafel Grill "competition for Mr Gyro" January 28, 2008 - Greenwood is full of Mediterranean restaurants and now I think I've found my favorite. I've had a few versions of lamb here: gyro, kebab and kebab plate. The latter gives you juicy, well-spiced chunks of lamb along with baba ganoush and hummus. They also sell cooked lamb by the pound- I'll have to try that next. Don't be discouraged by the location between a quickie mart and teriyaki hamburger place; this place is a little slice of paradise. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Osteria la Spiga "groups go elsewhere" December 26, 2007 - Our festive group of 12 were treated like an imposition, not an opportunity. We had to wait to be seated until we had a majority of the group arrive, then we were given a special "group menu" which is a pared-down version of their regular menu. We were then told that we would need to finish our meal by a certain time because they had another party booked! The food was good but not as fabulous as the architecture (which is worth a visit in and of itself) but go on a date or with another couple lest you wish to feel like a bother. |

Etta's Seafood "my vote for best seafood in Seattle" December 06, 2007 - It's amazing that a place like Etta's, located at the Pike Place Market, hasn't given in to the cutesy and excessively marketed genre of seafood restaurants in this town. Etta's is still a great place to go to celebrate, either with friends or out-of-town visitors. Their menu changes with the seasons and their food styles evolve, without leaving you wondering what country had the most influence on the dish you just ate. Their service is professional yet still personable. 3 people like this review - Recommend |

Prost! "drinkers only" December 06, 2007 - I suppose this is a great place for beer drinkers but don't go here if you are hungry. The only safe thing on the menu is an oversized pretzel with mustard. I had the "mystery meat" with bread and apple slices. The apple was nearly edible. |

74th Street Ale House "Not just a pub...a restaurant, too" December 06, 2007 - This is not just food that will keep you from getting stupid-drunk, like most pubs have; they have great food. Salads, soups and sandwiches plus they are open at times when the other neighborhood spots are not. |

Szmania's "take a trip to Magnolia" November 23, 2007 - Going to the village of Magnolia is like travelling to another city; you just can't believe you've never been here before, right in your own town. Szmania's is a good reason for making the journey, as they serve German-inspired food that isn't the heavy, creamy variety that you first think of when you think "German". I had the Sauerbraten with meat that just about fell apart in my mouth. I was relieved to not see German Chocolate Cake on the menu. In fact, there was a nut tart, a French cake and other tasty bites that make it worth the visit. |

Agua Verde "Hot summer evening spot" November 23, 2007 - If you can score a table on the deck, it's the perfect place to be on a hot summer's eve when you want to eat creative, healthy Mexican. They also rent kayaks but don't go there just for that. The food here is not an afterthought. |

Cafe Campagne "A little French bistro" November 22, 2007 - Less formal or stuffy than their upstairs, upscale counterpart, the Cafe is a nice place to go for dinner with friends or family or just for dessert, particularly when on a date. They often have live music and the service is unhurried. 3 people like this review - Recommend |

Stumbling Goat Bistro "Still dreaming of the lamb dish" November 22, 2007 - A friend treated me to dinner at Stumbling Goat and I had the Leg of Lamb which was so simply cooked with salt and pepper but so divinely juicy and delicious. We weren't going to have dessert, both so satisfied with our choices (he had the salmon) but our server described a berry cobbler in such a poetic way that we decided to share one. It was one of those rare, perfect dining experiences. 2 people like this review - Recommend |

Mr. Gyro's "great neighborhood spot" November 22, 2007 - Owned by two young guys (who seem to be powered by 80s music), they have a menu full of the typical Middle Eastern fare for very reasonable prices. Lines can be long on Fridays but the Lamb Gyros for $5 and the mega-garlic hummus that comes with it is worth the wait. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |

Pair "great place to go with friends" November 22, 2007 - They have a menu full of small plates that are great for sharing, but don't expect to save money here because you will want to order nearly one of everything and it's not cheap. Great wine list and desserts plus excellent service and ambience. |

Chocolati Café (Greenwood) "Best Hot Chocolate in Seattle" November 22, 2007 - If you want a real hot chocolate, this is the place. They make it like their espresso drinks (also worth trying), no powders here. Have a cookie and a truffle, too, to satisfy a chocolate craving. Then, sit in one of their comfy chairs, admire the art on the walls and mellow out. 1 person likes this review - Recommend |
