Longhorn Barbecue Outpost
"Smokey and tasty"
August 15, 2007 - My office is across the street from Longhorn, so I have long been privy to their super-smoked-out exterior.  Smoke billows from their kitchen constantly and the street smells of charred wood at all hours - honestly, it kept me away for fear of emerging from their restaurant similarly fragranced.  However my office recently had a party catered by Longhorn and it was AWESOME.  Delicious ribs and chicken make the smokey smell 100% worth it!

Grand Central Baking Company
"Good sandwiches, great cookies"
August 15, 2007 - In my opinion, one of the best places in Pioneer Square to have lunch.  Lots of tables both outside and inside, a great selection of sandwiches and soups, and seriously tasty cookies.  Can be slow sometimes but generally because they get busy during the lunch rush.

"long line, not so awesome"
August 15, 2007 - After a lot of recommendations and 45 mins in line (and I was hungry when I left the office) it should have been the best meal ever.  Unfortunately, what I got was a $10 piece of bread with a slice of meat.  Over-rated and over-priced, I wanted it to be good but it just wasn't.

Imo asian bistro
"new name, same tasty sushi"
July 11, 2007 - The sushi restaurant formerly known as Bonzai, now known as Imo...
Still has good sushi, especially for the neighborhood, and has a great happy hour for sushi and drinks.

Steel Pig - Aurora North
"eat the wings, avoid the rest"
January 10, 2007 - Seriously tasty, tender and delicious wings but the rest of the BBQ staples disappointed in a big way - tough ribs, bland chicken, mushy catfish.  The sides were pretty good, but the waitress' recommendation of their "excellent" mac and cheese was a total lie.  Where I come from, you don't put brown sugar on top of mac.  You just don't.
Overall it was decent, but it's not destination BBQ.

"eating with your hands = fun"
November 21, 2006 - Aside from the intrinsic enjoyment of eating with your hands, I LOVE ethiopian food.  It's a spicy, saucy combination of flavors you don't find often and it's generally a quick, cheap meal.  Try the mixed veggie and any of the lamb dishes, but be careful of over-ordering - portions are generous!

"enjoyable, not gastro-fabulous"
November 20, 2006 - I can't argue with the enthusiastic (and hilarious) waiters, the giant swivel armchair counter seating, or the intimate booths.  I can take issue with the food, but I was too busy enjoying the atmosphere.  Breakfast (any time of day) is the best choice, the fritatta is good.  The scallops, however, are shameful.

Pink Door
"good things"
November 16, 2006 - Tasty tiramisu and a hilarious and hot burlesque performance on saturdays?  Yes please.  The bartender also makes some killer drinks, but is at times a little too excited to set them alight.

"a good benedict is hard to find..."
November 13, 2006 - Breakfast is, of course, a very important meal - but even more important is making sure that your breakfast consists of poached eggs (wobbly please) on a toasted muffin with ham and lots of hollandaise on top.  Dish will do it, and well.  It's small and if it's raining your wait will be damp, but it's worth it.  And if you're not a bennie fan, the pancakes looked pretty good too - with blueberries mixed in with the batter.

La Carta de Oaxaca
"In a word, tasty!"
November 13, 2006 - In a world where more and more often putting something in a torilla and covering it with cheese constitutes Latin food, I'm always happy to find a place like La Carta de Oaxaca!  Seriously delicious mole made the 45 minute wait totally worth it, and I saw plenty of plates go by that looked great too.  I'll be back for sure.
