Boom Noodle
"I Heart Boom's Yakisoba!"
April 12, 2008 - I finally made it to Boom Noodle.  The first thing I said to my friend was "Hey, these are Bertoia chairs we're sitting on -- oh my, those are Eames chairs."   The modernist decor didn't go unnoticed, though perhaps they were 'faux' - I didn't have the balls to peek at the underside of the chairs.  As for food - I'm a yakisoba snob.  I prefer sidewalk yakisoba in an obscure alley in Tokyo, but I actually found Boom Noodle's version pretty good - I inhaled the dish.  My friend ordered the salmon chazuke and raved about it, comparing it favorably to the ones he had while in Kyoto.  We both washed our food down with Sapporo on draft - yum!  For dessert, I had the moche trio (I highly recommend!).  The trio: Chocolate with passionfruit crystal (yum), vanilla with milk chocolate hazelnut krackel (yum, yum), and green tea with blueberry, cardamom sauce (by far the best).  The pairings were pretty interesting and quite delicious.  The space is beautiful, and I do like the communal tables (though we sat near the window high-up on our Bertoia chairs).  I will definitely go back - the prices are pretty fair.  I don't really think of Boom as a "fine" Asian dining per se - go to Nishino for that.  I see it more like a very casual place to get together with friends for pretty good Asian food and to talk loudly while you eat.  I recommend.

Black Bottle
"Is it Hipster in Here or Is It Just Me?"
February 25, 2008 - Dropped by Black Bottle with a friend at around 6-ish for a glass of wine, and was impressed by how packed the place was.  We walked from one end of the bar to the other and could not find a seat.  Alas, the kind hostess told us there was a table in the back room available, so we took it.  The ambience in Black Bottle that night was very dark, very loud (but in that urban buzzing sort of way), but surprisingly I could hear everything my friend was saying.  The wine list is fairly good - we noshed a bit on two plates, while sipping our wine.  I had the steamed clams which were on the spicy side, but very good nonetheless.  She had the potato and prosciutto wheels (prosciutto-wrapped  potatoes), which were very good too.  Black Bottle has a very urban hipster feel.  If the food and wine weren't that great I'd totally opt to go somewhere quieter and less conspicuous, but it's quite the opposite.  The food and wine are good and well-worth the try.

Top Pot Doughnuts (Belltown)
"Slurp"
November 30, 2007 - I love this place.  I love the chocolate covered donuts it carries - I crave them constantly.  I've never tasted anything so good!  I want one (or six) right now, in fact!  Yum.

Umi Sake House
"Go for Happy Hour"
November 30, 2007 - The happy hour specials here are great, if you are looking for fairly edible sushi rolls for cheap and a Sapporo to wash it all down.

Old Town Alehouse
"Feed Me the Fries!"
November 30, 2007 - The seasoned fries are so damn delicious ... I return often just for to have them, along with whatever IPA they have on tap.  The food is fairly standard pub fare, but those fries ... gotta have those fries!
